Hello & welcome to the forum Ian.

In terms of anime, my favourites would be Gurren Lagann, Aria, Hetalia and Nadesico. I'm also keen on the manga Hyper Police. Haven't got around to the anime yet.

Not seen Hetalia, but the other anime you like are good (Aria is one of my favs).

In terms of Hyper Police, I have read part of the manga but I have seen the anime (good show, pity there is a lack of extras on the dvds).

If you want to find out more about Hetalia, here is the Wikipedia page. If you've never heard of it, it proves that the legend that history is written by the winners is wrong.

I understand that you say your character is a parody, within Anime circles it might be, but to a wider audience they'll percieve it as "all anime is like that", just to give you my two pence on that, even if it's a little late.

Anyway, welcome to the club man, enjoy your stay :)

I think I should point out that with Dominique you never actually see her having sex. It is something that is constantly refered to and mentioned but is never shown - rather like Captain Mainwaring's wife Elizabeth in Dad's Army - it's funnier and scarier if never left in your own head.

Come on, we both know that the main reason a thread like that would have been made or kept alive would be because of Kuro lol.

And he was in a league of his own (if you ever visited his website you'll know what i mean...)

Dude, loads of people posted in that thread, not just him lol. We've had threads discussing the possible over-sexualization in anime anyway. I don't really see anythin' wrong with Ian's work. If people have heard of the hentai stereotype I can't see why they'd watch his stuff anyway. The people who watch it are probably those who are clueless on anime, or who have heard good things about it. I certainly wouldn't tune in to 'try' some anime if I assumed it was all hentai etc.

I don't find the idea of Dominique at all offensive; she sounds rather cool and not too serious.

I'll love you for doing that <3 ;)

That was the kind of reaction I was expecting and have to admit was hoping to get.

Dominique as a character is actually terrifying. She is a sadist, a rapist, a peadophile, a necrophile (then again, because her universe is dominated by sex almost everyone in her universe has either committed sadomasochism, rape, peadophilia or necophilia), she is a megalomaniac, a narcissist - but she is strangely likeable. She's got sex appeal for starters which is more than can be said for most comedy creations.

In a way she is rather like the Rik Mayall character Alan B'Stard MP from the 1980-90s sitcom The New Statesman. The writers of the character claimed that people liked him because he is not a hypocrite. B'Stard was proud of his right-wing Thatcherite principles (e.g. his view on the NHS was "In the good old days, you were poor, you got ill, and you died.") He is also proud of the fact he has a very small penis and that it takes him only a few seconds to reach orgasm (if that's too rude to mention on this forum I'll take it down).

Similarly, Dominique is very proud of the fact that she is officially recognised as being the most sadistically perverted individual in the multiverse. She is proud of the fact that those in own world fear her. She is proud that her job is the world's Chief Torturer, that she could torture someone for years and years, and that in her view, it stops crime by acting as a deterrent to others.

She is evil, she is violent, she is twisted, she is power-mad - but deep down, you'd still probably what to have sex with her.

Welcome, Mr. Wolf, always good to see more creative members joining the forum, very nice to...
