Hi there,

Ian Wolf

AUKN Staff
Hello everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm Ian and I'm an anime and manga fan from Stockton-on-Tees.

In terms of interest in anime and manga, I'm mainly interested in writing it. I'm not much of an artist but I have some success as a comedy writer getting material on BBC Radio.

The main project I'm working on is called Another Dimension (previously called Doors), a comedy set across various different parallel universes. My avatar is one of the characters. She is called Dominique, and she is the villain of the piece - she's a sadistic catgirl from a sex-mad parallel world.

Would have greeted you warmly.... but then you said

Way to go, push the western stereotype that anime and hentai are the same thing even further in the wrong direction.

Anime isn't about panty shots and big breasts. its about a media that can captivate imagination, and can do anything that you could see in western television, but in a different way.

If you like CSI, there's ghost in the shell.
If you like disney, there's studio ghibli.

so on and so forth.

You say you do a sketch for the bbc. you have the opportunity to show on a national scale that its not all perverse "cartoons", but no. your a dick... and you decide to show it in the stereotypical view that most people in the western world see it.

For that. you scumbag, GTFO

Do you welcome everybody onto this website like this?

Nah, most of the time i'm friendly too, but even as a parody i saw it could mess things up for the industry across here.

In that light i wanted to try and say that if you thought it was funny, it could damdge things further rather than heighten interest :/

Didn't mean to bite your head off as much, but do you see what i'm saying?

Yeah, i was gonna say it's fine you commenting and such, but that line is too much. watch what you say next time, ye'hear?

Welcome to the forums anywho Ian Wolf, apologies for the initial bad first impressions, but we are a decent enough community. Have you got any particular favourites you take any inspiration from or do you go for original ideas/parodies?

I think I do. I release that some people might think that but it's not my intension at all. She is just one out of four main characters.

Ok, in that case Ian. I'm prepared to take back that scumbag comment, in return for more info about this show.

Also, what part of the bbc is it on? radio/tv/website?

Most of my ideas are original, but I do have ideas for parodies, not of certain anime but of certain ideas. For example, one of my ideas is a mecha pardoy where I thought it would be combine this most Japanese of things with something very English - so I decided it might be a good idea to have mecha playing cricket.

Also, what part of the bbc is it on? radio/tv/website?

I've had two sketches and a one-liner on BBC Radio 7. Oone on a long forgotten show called Tilt, the other on Newsjack, the main satirical comedy of the channel. The other was on BBC Radio 2 on a sports comedy called Never Write off the Germans.

In terms of my anime, there are four main characters. Other than Dominique the perverted villain, there is Rebecca the "accidentally wealthy" botanist, Sir Rover the steampunk dog, and Shinji an Anglo-Japanese man with the eyes of a hawk and terrible fashion sense.

Each edition is set in a different universe. For example, there is a world dominated by alcohol, another which is a high fantasy parody, another where Satanism is the main religion and so on.

Each of the characters themselves come from a different world. Rebecca's world has a backwards geology (gold is very common), Sir Rover's has a vastly different history to ours, Dominique's is dominated by sex, and in Shinji's it is different biology (and apparently not the cannibalism - his world in a way parodies the perceived violence in anime.).

Here is a picture of the four main characters.

Oh? Tachi's been experimenting again? Also, there's no denying that stuff doesn't exist in anime, it's foolish to think otherwise. Not to mention, our industry won't get any smaller - or bigger. It just doesn't.

Wow, nice job jumping on a new poster for no reason there Tachi-.

Anyway, Ian, glad to read an interesting introduction post! Do you draw the character art yourself or are you part of a team (I notice you say you aren't much of an artist, but the preview image is rather good)?

I had it drawn by a Mexican artist on Deviant Art. He is currently drawing some character sheets for me.

Welcome to the forum Ian, what kind of anime do you like?

I must say though, arguable it wasn't the best way to introduce your self with the 'sex mad cat girl', simply because what one views as tasteful, another may not eg Tachi.

Yes, probably not the best way to introduce myself. Bit of an error on my part.

In terms of anime, my favourites would be Gurren Lagann, Aria, Hetalia and Nadesico. I'm also keen on the manga Hyper Police. Haven't got around to the anime yet.

Not seen Hetalia, but the other anime you like are good (Aria is one of my favs).

In terms of Hyper Police, I have read part of the manga but I have seen the anime (good show, pity there is a lack of extras on the dvds).
