Help!: Anime in the UK

Thanks for all the replies! They're really helpful :)

After reading what you lot have said, I'm really interested in the idea of clubs and groups dedicated to anime. Do any of you belong to a club? if so, could you tell me a bit about it? I've never really heard about anime clubs before, apart from student groups, and on the internet. Is it like, meet up and watch/talk about anime? or something else?

Also, alot of you import, does this cost much more than buying UK distributed anime from HMV/Amazon, etc? Do you watch it on your PC? or did you fork out for a multi region dvd player?
Basically, how dedicated are you? :p

No, I don't belong to any club.

Importing is usually cheaper, strange as it may seem...

I watch on my TV. I've even got cables to connect my laptop to my TV, but I do have a multi region dvd player.

I only watch anime and movies on cinema.

Importing was very good while the Pound was strong and the Dollar weak, even working out cheaper than buying the UK versions in most cases, but with the economy here rapidly dissapearing down the drain it's now a different matter. You can unlock most DVD players and make them multiregion, just Google their make and model and "region unlock". It's normally just a code you tap into the remote.*

*I knew it! I knew I would need to say it again!

Add this site DVD Reviewer to that quote for the next time you need to use it.

I was just trying to wind them up, but cheers anyway :p

I had thought so. I should have used a smiley in my post  . Although that is a useful web site and where I usually head to when I am looking for a new player and want to check before I buy.

Well belong to Nel Ams a club in North east london, and the general pattern for me is chat about anime and watch a few episode, there is also a lot of gaming talk and playing. People with art talent draw. Its fairly chilled if no one winds up the president.

Cost isn't such a big thing for me, mainly as i have the patience to wait for the UK release come down in price. Go for stuff that hasn't got liecensed in the UK and is unlikely to be. AS for DVD players got both PC and set top box.
