Hello! I'm Sonia Leong *bows*

Dandy Guy, in Space
Hello! I'll make this one nice and long with lots of stuff so people can ask me questions about anything ^__^

My name is Sonia Leong, and I'm an illustrator from Cambridge, UK.

Some things about me in list form for easy reading:
I specialise in anime/manga style and comic artwork
I'm a senior member of Sweatdrop Studios
My artwork has been featured in Tokyopop (UK Rising Stars of Manga 2nd place), Wacom (with their how-to-draw manga website & flyers), NEO Magazine (tutorials and NEO manga comp winner) and IMAF (International Manga and Anime Festival, I was joint judge for character design, and made the mascots, the i-Team)
I'm a shoujo/josei artist mainly

I like reading all sorts of Manga from all genres, but my favs include:
xxxHOLIC, Battle Vixens, Cardcaptor Sakura, IWGP, Lament of the Lamb, X, Evangelion, Battle Angel Alita, MARS, GetBackers.... so there's no real pattern, eheh.

I love Gothic and Lolita fashion and often sew my own outfits. I dress mainly kuro-loli, EGL or EGA. Everyday fashion is more casual-loli and punk-loli.

You may have seen me at various conventions/events, normally in the above fashions. I wear glasses, and have extremely long hair (to my knees).

I'm a j-pop/j-rock fan, particularly of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Utada Hikaru, Do As Infinity, Every Little Thing, Bonnie Pink and Maaya Sakamoto.

I cook lots of Thai, Chinese and Japanese food, but I'm also very good at Western style foods like pasta, casseroles and steaks. I love baking, and make jam once a year and go out to pick wild blackberries in the fields around Cambridge...

I collect weapons. I have 2 crossbows, 3 throwing knives, 1 katana, 1 rapier, 2 nun-chucks, 1 pair of Sai (lovely birthday gift ), 1 bokken, 3 ornamental knives/daggers, 1 foil and 1 epee from Leon Paul (I used to fence at university). Lately, I've not been able to purchase more because Loli fashion is also quite an expensive habit ;;

I have a good amount of random manga/anime stuff to clear out, which is one of the reasons I've come here, but I've often sent press releases to the guys here in the past, so I feel I ought to say hello in a more relaxed manner instead ^__^ Plus, I like keeping up with all the goss! ohoho.

Pleased to meet you. *bows*

Hi Sonia, nice to see another anime fan from Cambridge sign up- I thought we were a rare breed, but I guess not? :)

Welcome to the forums! A very interesting and comprehensive intro! :D

There's a great cretives section here if you want to share some of your work - you are indeed very talented.

Wai, thank you for the warm welcome! ^___^

Paul, there are LOTS of anime fans in Cambridge! Did you know that the majority of Sweatdrop Studio's admin are based here? It's also why NEO mag sells out sometimes at Borders, ehehe ^^;;

Ufufu, I'm hoping there are lots of fans in the Cambridge area, as I may be doing a book signing at the Borders there for Tokyopop... *prays that she'll be given a good reception*

Necromancer, catgirls rawk! *^o^* V She is the official Wacom Catgirl!

:D Indeed, got a few of them for my birthday (if only they weren't just on paper  ). I was just at the Wacom site reading the tutorial you did on how you coloured her :).

It's quite cool that I'm running this site out of Cambridge and you're working with Sweatdrop here too. I've never been a part of any of the local fanclubs or events so I guess that explains my ignorance of Cambridge anime fandom :) An artist who works with us, Jim Tzu, is also based in the area!

Good luck with the book signing too! Let me know when you have a confirmed date (and/or press release) and I'll happily mention it in the site news- judging by our readership, a few more Cambridge based peoples may well be interested! ;)

Out of interest, does this mean that TokyoPop UK may be publishing some of your work?

Yo there, and the award for best intro ever goes to,

*Drum roll please*

No contest you get it hands down, Welcome to the forums, im sure you will have a lot of fun here 8)

The RSOM anthology will be coming out around the start of May, so I'll be in that, at least, and that's what the book signing will be about. My colleague from Sweatdrop Emma Vieceli (who also lives in Cambridge ^^) is also featured in the book, so it'll be a double signing day from us at the Borders.

We've submitted full-length series pitches to them, but we have to hear back from them about whether they're any good or not... the UK side of Tokyopop currently only deal with distribution and publicity. All the creative work, editing, selection and hiring artists etc. happens on the US side. The US RSOM 6 has only just been finished, which may explain why they've been too busy to sort that out yet!

Aw, thank you Shades, for the award! ^___^

*sniff, cries melodramatically*

"I-I'd like to thank my mum, for giving birth to me, my dad, for paying my way through education, and my siblings for not trodding me down, and my school friends and teachers and my pet dog and my...."

*hooked cane comes from behind the curtain and wrenches me offstage*

^_~

hmmm looks like we found somone more nuts than me :p

welcome to the forums, must say its good too see some decent catgirl pics atlast (living with my brothers attempts at catgirls make me shudder :) )

Hey Sonia and welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here ^^

I've seen your wining 5 page manga in NEO magazine as I collect every issue and also some of your artwork and you have an amazing talent *Strawberry gets jealous*

In btw, congratulations on wining 2nd place in RSOM

*bows again* Thank you very much for your kind reception!

I've been feeling in an awful mood about my artwork today due to some nitpicking I've received from some people online, and I know they meant well and weren't evil or rude at all, but it still disheartens you.

*clenches fist determinedly* I will not falter, I will get better!! YOSH!!

i acctually encorage people to critisize my brothers work as it stops him from getting big headed and shows he he still has a long way to go.

I know different people respond to differently to critisism but as a musician myself i find critisim can be a great assest as long as people say why they're critising

people who say "omg this sucks" aren't worth the effort or the time of day but if someone says "omg this sucks because........" i feel thats the only way you can truely grow :D

so don't feel too down if people say bad things, remember 1 thing, don't judge your work on how good it is compaired to others, but on how hard you tried yourself. If you tried your hardest then theres nothing to feel bad about

unfortuantly not everyone can be a Michaelagello or Tim Rice :( but only you can be you

GOOD GOD THAT SOUNDED SOPPY, no more zoids for me :(

Thank you, I like the barmaid too, I drew her on holiday whilst trying to come up with a different hairstyle, I will ink & colour her at some point...

Minami - I only arrived on Saturday afternoon, as I was there for jolly/a little bit of dealing. ^__^

*Is nervous* Uh, a VERY warm welcome to you! ...Please don't hurt me!!!

Nice work you've got there too! Hope you like it here, and I'm pretty sure we'll all like having you here! :p
