Gundam Seed Destiny Question

I bought the anime legends box set and at ep 7 when Junius Seven falls from orbit there isn't a song in english just subs and no audio just sound effects.

I remember watching this scene before and it had an english song, did they boch up the dvd or something?

I believe the show was a victim of Sunrise's constant 'don't budget the songs for Gundam dubs'. I'm pretty sure in a later episode, Strike Freedom's debut, the dub only has the instrumental version of TM Revolution's Vestige.

Though it could be worse and actually screw up the plot. In G Gundam, the dub removes a lullaby Chibodee's mother used to sing him and replaces it with something like 'America the Beautiful'. Yay for removing anything that suggests the character is more then a stereotype.

I remember the scene where places are getting struck by bits of Junius Seven and it had an english song when I watched it on the internet or could it just be the UK release.

If you have a timestamp I'll check the US disc for you, though it would be helpful if you said whether you were talking about the dub or original Japanese on both the disc and wherever you originally saw it.

6.08 into the ep until 8.03 on the uk set

I checked it with a file from the internet and it had english dubbed lyrics for the song on the english track.

*looking at my UK discs*

I had a feeling it would be Lacus singing rather than a random insert song. (To be exact, it's "Fields of Hope" by Rie Tanaka as Lacus Clyne) If you watch the episode with Japanese audio, the song is intact.

"Fields of Hope" was released on the second OST in Japan, which is full of character songs. If I remember though, at least in SEED, the dub would have their own songs recorded.

Just checking the discs for the other episodes the song appears in.

Ok, on the US discs the song is there in Japanese and on the dub track, it's there too (only sung in English). That's weird, at the part where it shows Lacus singing surrounded by children, is she just silent in the UK dub track?

Yeah in the UK release she is just silent but the background explosions and stuff are still there. The japanese track contains the japanese song and is intact

It must have been harder work to remove it than just leave it in! I wonder if it was some kind of obscure mistake with the soundtracks when the dub was brought here or whether it was removed on purpose because of a rights problem.

On my UK disc, the lyrics are absent but the instrumental bits are still there. I've noticed the subs start a bit before, but the subs for this series as a whole were poorly timed with songs anyway.

If it was a rights problem, wouldn't they have recorded their own song for the dub? I remember Gundam SEED did that quite a bit.

EDIT:
Okays, I loaded up episode 41 where the song is also played. In that episode, as I expected, new dub lyrics are recorded. However, even when watching it Japanese audio and English subs, there are no subtitles for the song. The French dub only uses an instrumental, so it's most likely a rights reason.

EDIT 2: I've noticed that there are two subtitle tracks for English (and 2 for French) - the first one has the lyrics for the songs but not the dialogue, the second has the dialogue but not song lyrics (only found out while playing on my laptop).

utter b words

I am watching ep 17 and the fake lacus sings in japanese, what the hell, is the company who did the sets so cheap they couldn't get the songs

then after the song she speaks english then the next second sings in japanese

Just watched ep 19 and the song Meer sings is in japanese and when the characters talk english the background singing is in japanese too

And in ep 20 the english songs have been replaced with the japanese singing also
