Gundam Models

Mr B

Student Council President
Hi, I wanted to try my hand at model making again but thought I'd choose a subject other than planes :)

These two are Bandai 1:144 scale High Grade Kits from the OVA series Gundam Seed Stargazer. The first kit I built and airbrushed was the Slaughter Dagger, but lost the head to one of my dogs so this is now a spare practise kit.

This Kit is the Blu Duel Gundam built as is from the the box but without the stickers. I'll be stripping it down and painting it in the next couple of weeks.

All three kits together. Two Slaughter Dagger units and the Blu Duel Gundam. The second Slaughter dagger kit also needs painting.

Also in the process of building a resin kit of a Tachikoma and have a 1:6 figure of Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo on the way from E2046 in HK.

This is something I have always wanted to try, I used to make model planes and painted armies of Warhammer 40K figures. I have to admit at the moment I am void of having an actual hobby, plus I have some spare cash floating around in my ebay account after some very successful sales.

Anyone recommend a good kit/model for me?

McIcy - The Bandai Gundam kits are detailed and very easy to assemble. the two above (Blu Duel & Slaughter Dagger) are High Grade kits (£11-16) and took about 4-5 hours to assemble each, no glue required, just a sharp knife to cut the bits out. The kits come with coloured stickers so you don't have to paint them.

But if your feeling brave you can paint 'em :) Bandai even do Gundam markers in various colours/kits to help you do all the fiddly bits and panel lines.

The thing to watch out for is that alot of the Japanese Kits come pre-assembled and pre-painted, so alot of the stuff on say Anime-on-line or United Publication can be classed as action figures or display models. Hunt around and it'll normally tell you if it needs to be built & painted :)

I use Mech-a for the Gundam kits and Hobby Link Japan for other stuff.

E2046 are based in Hong Kong and do a huge range of Anime resin kits of both figures & robots. The Ryoko model only came in stock about a week ago and has already sold out! Along with this I aslo have the counterpart model on order which is Ayeka.

Just noticed, my original order e-mail with e2046 said the scale was 1/6 for the figures but this has been updated on the site - the figures are now listed as 1/8 not 1/6. They're still big though.

Thanks alot Mr B. I have found the kit I wanna try building, wanted to do one with loads of extras and this one caught my eye, I especially like the gattling gun. The 1/100 MG Strike Gundam IWSP just looks so cool, although I was torn towards the Zaku or Goef (sorry about spellings) as they are the ones built in Genshiken

Will probably respray it in base white or black and then paint it how I want it to look, will hopefully keep me busy as I am dying to get a new hobby.

Very Nice :) Two things to remember -
1, The instructions are in Japanese, but everthing is picture based :)
2, Sand the side of the joints if your going to paint it, otherwise the paint rubs off as you move the lower part of the legs/arms.

Nyu, E2046 have been quite good so far, everything is well wrapped and takes roughly 7 days to ship out. Not had to pay import duty yet either (touch wood)

The Ryoko resin kit arrived midday on Friday, I've removed all the flash & seam lines from the bits and it's currently soaking to remove all the releasing compound etc. from the surface.

I hope to get it built and painted with in the next two weeks.

The 1/12 Tachikoma is just about ready for painting, this should be completed by next weekend at the latest :D

Currently selling stuff on ebay to be able to afford my Strike Gundam, I really wish I had it now though as I could do with something to do this week as I am off work

The 1/12 scale Tachikoma resin garage kit with a touch of primer applied. It has 102 parts and only comes with a photo of the finished kit to help you build it  Now for the fun part... painting

Now thats cool, love the look of the Tachikoma, you'll have to show us the finished version too when its all painted up
