Gundam 00 Discussion

Right, as it is now Gundam 00 week, i thought i'd get a topic up for that now(albeit a tad late i know).

Having completed it more recently i have to say i found it very enjoyable. It did start off slow though i will say when it started going, it did get me hooked. I will be interested to see what new scenes are added to the special editions japan are getting, and what the movie will be like as well, but we still need to wait a while for them =/ The Dub should be interesting to see as well.

Also, yes i know there is a topic for Gundam already there, but thats for all, not just one, and since 00 has been released, a new topic for it seemed a better idea.

Ah Gundam 00 i was a bit skeptical going into it, i mean the last Gundam show before it was Seed Destiny, most people would be skeptical after that show. I was greatly surprised by what i saw and loved it to pieces through out its run (both seasons). Now if i could only get the money for the DVDs

I can't remember when I really started to feel this series. Could have been when Setsuna first meets Marina in episode eight or so? Thought that was a really good ep.

I might buy this from Play.com when I saw it at full price released early in Forbidden Planet... dayum. I saw the first three episodes back when it was first released it was ok.

I'm desperate to watch this but forgot to order it and now I sort of want to buy it in a shop so I can see the LE up close, only none seem to be carrying it.

I should order it right now really and stop being silly.

It looks quite different to most of the other Gundam series; would anyone say it is like any other in particular or does it tread its own path?

I must say, this series of Gundam has been one of my favs. 00 had me drooling for more, especially going into the 2nd season. I must say, this series has a lot of tragic moments within it, some you dont fully see until the end of the 1st series at earliest.

To answer Rui's question, I thought the animation style differed from SEED, there was just something diverse between how they've been animated. I just felt 00 felt more fluid in terms of how people and suits moved etc.

00 Does its own thing, there's only a few elements taken from other shows but for spoiler reasons i won't mention them or put them into spoiler tags :p But for the most its not a retread of any other series (i'm looking at you SEED and SEED Destiny)

but i like Turn A :( I'll give you Superior Defender Gundam Force though, that and G-Saviour. The old SD Gundam shorts are good though, just a bit spefifc with the jokes.

Well I finally got my copy and started watching it. I'm only a few episodes in (though I accidentally read a massive spoiler when googling a picture of something which I'm trying hard to forget, and had another thing spoiled for me last year when I was browsing SEED doujinshi!). So far, so good.

I am loving the Kouga Yun designs. The Beez version doesn't seem to subtitle any of the locations; I don't personally care as they're easy to read but I think it might confuse some people. Perhaps they are subbed in the dub track or something. From what has been said by others in the thread and my past knowledge of Gundam shows I'm suspecting it gets a lot better later on but it's already off to a much stronger start than some of the other recent Gundam series.

Gundam 00 is so-so. I enjoyed it, but it's not all that great. Especially when there's so much more out there that's better and that you could spend your time on. It's totally devoid of any unique story points or characterisation, to be honest. The animation, music and designs are amazing, though. Overall, I don't think I'd ever bother re-watching it, but it's still worth a spin IMO ;]

Having just finished watching Seed Destiny 2 weeks before getting this, it's certainly a turn around feels completely different, as you said you come off thinking it's more Seed.

Have to agree its going at a slow pace, but I'm loving the characters and story so far.

Whats with the naming in these shows, Seed set my friend off with names like "Lieutenant Mu La Flaga" I couldn't get him to calm down it was just silly.

Now there somebody named Daryl Dodge, thats just even worse, maybe it's just me

I can't wait for the movie after seeing both series, although I have to say i much preferred series one, especially the soundtrack to it

I've now seen the first 9 episodes. And I've already ordered the theme song collection CD from Yesasia after hearing the first opening and seeing the star-studded list of performers for the later ones.

The concept of the show brings back memories of Gundam Wing, though the characters seem older and less irritating. During the part ilmaestro mentioned earlier in the thread, Setsuna's behaviour made me think of Heero Yuy. Fortunately he's pretty cool most of the time so I can forgive that.

The spoilers I read by mistake haven't dampened the excitement so far so I'm guessing they're a long way in the future from here.

I am please that the Beez DVDs seem to lack the glitches of the R1 release as mine played perfectly. There are noticeable compression artifacts in some busy scenes (like some parts of the opening) but most of the show looks fantastic. There aren't many extras compared to the R1s, however we get more language options. It would definitely be a tempting upgrade for blu-ray if they're adding scenes; I can tell it will look fantastic with a more generous video format.

Is it just me or is Setsuna's white top/red scarf ensemble distractingly like a chef/waiter outfit? Perhaps he is a chef and I should stop worrying about it.

On Blu-ray... yeah, it looks good.

And I would agree with "During the part ilmaestro mentioned earlier in the thread, Setsuna's behaviour made me think of Heero Yuy", but I kind of liked how his change of attitude felt pretty natural, like he's been trying to contain his feelings but can't help himself when presented with that situation.

Hah, Setsuna like Heero is about right. I remember when checking out the translations for Super Robot Wars W, both Heero and Sagara Sousuke where in that game as playable characters and such, and they where often compared to one another as being similar, so it could be said Setsuna is quite like Sousuke too.

On another note, i got some time to watch the first episode of 00 dubbed last night before i had to rush to my night shift(i should sleep now, but hey) and i think its so-so. Out of the main four, Setsuna is average, i can see allelujiah and Lockon working, but tieria sounds too calm and quiet compared to his japanese VA, but that may change as the series goes on and the VA's get used to their roles. For the rest, the jury is still out on that one too, but there we go. Depending on how the rest of the disk goes, i may switch back to japanese for 6-9, but there we go.

Damn. Tieria needs to have that "mentally on a knife edge" thing going on or he's just... well... a girly looking dude with purple hair. At least through the early parts of the series.
