good anime books for kids?

I think a lot of people assume if it is graphical it is for kids but I've seen enough to know that my little guy isn't ready for some of these series.

Are there any suggestions for an 8 year old who isn't into scary or guns. He tends to prefer cute to rough. He doesn't care if the main character is a boy or a girl. He is a very good reader though of course his life experience level means there is plenty that goes over his head.

He likes One Piece and I've been hoping to find another series that he'd like.

Thanks!

I'm a big Fan of Shonen Jump so I'll Recommend a couple of there Mangas

Reborn!- A Funny little series about aBaby Hitman as he trains the next Head of the mafia Family. I found it funny

Shaman King - A Mixture of both action adventure and comedy about a kid who is in a tournament to be the next Shaman king

also Chibi Vampire - Nice little series

This is sort of hard, I wouldn't really go with Shaman King, it's really a dark series when it gets to it's serious points, something I wouldn't give an 8 year old kid. Although Reborn is a good one, since it doesn't seem to bad. What about MAR, Marchen Awaken Romance?

Rave Master is pretty harmless...one of my personal favourites.

Nothing offensive or too violent (most volumes are rated 7+)...it's an adventure in a similar style to One Piece.

...and I wouldn't really recommend Reborn to someone who doesn't like guns, seeing as the main action in the series is a kid getting shot. :/

Ah my goddess is pretty good not much fighting though there are a fair few sex references if your the kinda parent who wants to keep your kid away from more mature stuff, but generally it's fairly cutesy.

Azumanga diaoh no fighting fairly cute chacters couple of lesbian references(in a cute way)pretty funny.

Or naruto a lot of fighting(no guns)may get a little gory at times for an 8 year old(blood) but generally i heard it went down with kids pretty well.

Ok true the main character keeps getting shot but he comes back from it usually in lots of funny ways. And the rest of the series is very harmless each character as eccentric as each other

& Rave master is good too, forgot bout it

Saying it now almost seems embarassing, but the original Pokemon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! dubs entertained me no end when I was younger, and I'd recommend them to an up and coming young anime fan. :D

I also grew up with Dragonball Z but eh...perhaps best if he doesn't...

Thanks!

He is a big pokémon fan so that's a good thought. I seem to recall there being a manga series for it...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - sounds like some really good possibilities for him here. I'll go see what I can find!

Lemme check my magazines, I saw a good picture-type book in one of them. Suitable for kids and the art was absolutely fantastic! I'll get back to you on this one.

"Hikaru no Go." One's initial scepticism about a manga based around a board game is soon toppled by the engaging story and intriguing characters. It can be enjoyed by anyone; Viz has offered it an "All Ages" rating, too.

I would wholly recommend this series.

Drawn extremely well by Takeshi Obata; he also done Death Note, one of the better Shonen artists if i say so myself. :D

Yeah...a one-volume story based on Mystery Dungeon came out recently. I got it a few days ago...haven't got around to reading it yet, but it looks very nice.

There's also one-offs of "Best of Pokemon Adventures"...one for Red and one for Yellow, made up of the stuff that floated around random bookshops here years ago when Pokemon first took off. I'm still waiting for them to arrive, but I've got some of the original books and they were good.
