Gold Dust: Rare titles we still want

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a thread originally started on the Neo forums and one of a few I don't wish to loose. In saying that if there already exists a thread of this nature, please link this thread to it. As I can't necessarily carry all responses over I have summarised the run this thread has had and leave it to the members of this site to correct any mistakes and further the detail contained within.

Thank you.

This thread has three uses. As the title suggests this thread is a place to cite any rare and hard to find titles, especially ones that you would still wish to add to your collections (assuming you haven't done so already). Finally if anyone has a wish list or know the where abouts of a title please give a link (Please be careful when posting a link. Please check the product is legit. if in doubt ask one of the members of the forum). Feel free to mention and discuss any out of print title you'd like to see back, if you have come across one and where. Please state the format of the title, be it DVD/Blu Ray/Laser Disc or VHS.

So far interest has been show for the following:

Cyber City Oedo
Sukeban Deka
Angel Cop
Black Magic M66
Blue Sonnet
Genocyber
Pokemon (Indigo league)
Violence Jack
Patlabor
Sailor Moon
Ultimate Teacher
Neon Genesis Evangelion (platinum)
Record of Lodoss War and Legend of Crystania

A number of up to date links will follow for the most affordable copies of the above.

If anyone has anything further to add (only hard to get (OOP) and notoriously overpriced items should be stated and the cheapest prices (anything less than £100 ($120) total) or further information on availability existing titles within this thread please feel free. :)

I honestly don't know. I've simple listed all the titles mentioned in the thread and Ultimate teacher was one of them (temple 81 metioned it I think).

The original El-Hazard seems to have shot up in price from I can see from a brief search. Would love a re-release of that.

The first Patlabor OVA is coming out in April from Maiden Japan (one of the many companies related to Section 23) in the US on DVD and Blu-ray, hopefully they'll release the series and the 2nd OVA.

Interesting idea for a thread. Some of the titles mentioned can still be had for reasonable prices from amazon though. At a glance, Cyber City, Genocyber, Violence Jack and Sukeban Deka are all affordable and appear to be legit. Black Magic and Angel Cop are silly money, however, as is the Patlabor tv series.

Personally, I've found that certain parts of the City Hunter tv series are ludicrously overpriced - s1 part 1, s2 part 1 and '91 are all over £100 at the moment. As much as I like City Hunter, it's not worth that, at least not for the bare bones ADV release.

Incidentally, Prefectural Earth Defense Force is a fun oav that ADV apparently saw fit to sell about three copies of through their website and I'd be interested if anyone sees it turn up anywhere.

I've had a nose around and it does exist out there but not currently for sale. Odds are unless the license is picked up the prices will be about the most astronomical is any copies come up for sale.

Zipang is an excellent series I've long wanted. Series released in the US over 7 DVD vols back in the early 2000s, but vol 6 is now nigh-on impossible to find for sensible money (vols 1-5 and 7 can all be had for approx £10, 6 is £50-odd and upwards)

Im not sure if any of these count as oop or costly or in some cases any good but there anime i started with
Goku Midnight Eye
Devilman
Guyver 90s ova
Demon City Shinjuku
Wicked City
Megazone 23

Poppycock. The thread isn't a popularity contest. Any title people may be looking for that they have distinct difficulty finding on common sites such as united publications, rightstuf, play, amazon, ebay, gumtree, et al or are strugling to find items at a fair price (this is a matter of opinion but given the availability of some titles you may have to pay over the odds to get them). I've had a quick look at your list and quite a few are OOP. Anything ADV, CPM, Geneon, Bandai and Beez will be assumed as OOP.

Please disregard the first title in the list. The other two relate to demon city.

here is a link to mega zone.

More links to come.

N.B a lot of the links will be for imports

Here are some more links

Guyver original on VHS
http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/guyve ... 1008764446

Most of the guyver dvds are post millenia i'm afraid

As for wicked city these are the best I've found

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... ition=used

Midnight eye is a bit of a stinker as the bulk are vhs with only the japanese getting the dvd.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_ ... ight%20eye

Finally the best devilman I can see

http://www.amazon.com/Devilman-Birth-De ... s=devilman

Ultimate teacher isnt really that good tbh so not sure why its on your list Mr Cud.
Thats the one with the magic panties right?

Yep. I found it in a clearance sale with a few other VHS titles about ten years ago. It was rather poor.

What about the individual releases of Bubblegum Crisis on DVD? I only ever found 1 and 3 for a sensible price :(

Orgun's mention of it over in the viewing journal thread reminds me; Crusher Joe is another R1-only disc that's now crazily expensive.
