Im at that stage where u've finished a series and are ready to check out a new one. I've just got through two long and amazing animes, Maison Ikokku and Kimagure Orange Road. My next series should be sort of in the same range, any ideas cos im out

You could try Ranma 1/2 (same creator as Maison Ikkoku). It's an extremely funny anime, with great characters. Very long running (7 seasons).

If you want some other long running series then try these:

Inuyasha (shounen)
Hunter x Hunter (shounen)
One Piece (shounen)
Marmalade Boy (shoujo)
Kodocha (shoujo)
Yu Yu Hakusho (shounen)

I'm pretty sure other people will recommed other titles as well ^__^
 
Obviously it is hard not knowing what you have already seen. But the most recent titles I have watched (or been watching) and thoroughly enjoyed are Blood+, Black Cat and the Robotech DVDs (as not being American, I never had the change to watch the series on TV).
