Ghost in the Shell singer Origa passes away

Well this is depressing, Origa (known as Ol'ga Yakovleva) has passed away due to lung cancer at the age of 44.

She was known for singing the opening songs to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Season 1, 2nd Gig and Solid State Society).

Talk about yer punch in the gut. I couldn't believe this when I saw the news. I'm absolutely disconsolate. She was the kind of talent that it was just WRONG more people didn't get to know about.

Oh dear. I'm also very fond of her songs for Fantastic Children and have always been disappointed that only the one of the two versions of Mizu no Madoromi was on the OST.

Her work with Yoko Kanno alone will remain as a huge testament to her vocal talents - who could fail to be moved by her vocals on the GITS Stand Alone Complex series? A wonderful artist - though we can still enjoy and celebrate her performances, she will be sorely missed for all that which we might have had, but have now lost.
