Ghost in the Shell SAC first season box set.

Hikikomori
Hello (first post here so...)

Anyway having watched a number of episodes of SAC round my mates/ borrowed from them, i am thinking of starting to buy it, only thing is i have never really watched anime before (never got into as much as i have with SAC) let alone bought it so i have no idea on how prices vary etc.

Bascially (looking at play.com this is) should i wait til the boxset is out (play says november but that'll prolly change) and hope the price does not increase (so it would be cheaper than individual dvbd's) or buy the individual ones now which will probably cost more (again unless the prices change)

Any advice for a hopeless new guy?

I'd say wait for the box set, thats what Im doing, and I doubt that the price or the date will change, and if they do only slightly.

Im also waiting for the boxset I do try to buy thing as they come out but if I cant the box-sets are always good value. I also doubt the price will chage it more likely to be the date >.< but fingers crossed all will go to schedule..

Well, you'd get a nice tin with the individual releases as well though.

In anycase, like everyone else said the price isn't too likely to change. not only are play.com advertising it at £31.99, but now even amazon.co.uk are advertising it at £29.99 (free shipping with purchases over £19 as well, so you don't need to worry about P&P like you normally do with amazon). Shipping date isn't likely to change, at least to any signifant extent.

Personally, I'd wait. The cheap price (hey, it's £75 cheaper compared to buying individually from play.com, that's no small sum) also means that you'll have cash to try other anime titles with as well.

Just out of curiousity, how much of the series have you seen so far anyway?

Thanks for the advice,

I've seen all of the 2nd dvd (5-8, thats the one i borrowed :D) and then odd ones (bout 5 -7 others, enough to know i like its/want to see more, kinda weird like that i guess) scattered through out the series, i haven't seen any of 1-4 though as me mate dosent have them (not the best way i know but still)

Well, like I said, I'd advise you to be patient and order (or pre-order) the boxset. I'm not sure how available it will be in stores, and aside from that, high street stores will probably charge you on or near the £40 RRP.

In any case, welcome to the forum. We could recommend some other titles as well if you want, just tell us some films you like and stuff you're into (steampunk, fantasy etc.) and I'm sure everyone will put together a huge list of stuff you might like.

I'd also recommend Cowboy Bebop. It's cool and stylish, and the music is largely by Yoko Kanno as well. Although you'd have to buy individual volumes at the moment since there isn't a boxset available for it. At least not yet (I would think one would be released in future, but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part).

lol i havent got any of it yet either, i'm just going to buy vol7 with the tin + t-shirt. Its a play.com exclusive too! and i love boxes to hold series' (in this case a tin) YIPEEEEE! :p :p

Also, the box set, as its so cheap, it will probably be bare bones and have a thin cardboard box (like the one for Fist Of North Star (i dont have the box but ive seen it)) :?

:p

I am hesistant to buy it because of that reason. If i am getting a box set I would prefer a good quality box, so I am still unsure.

When buying the GITS:SAC box set, also consider that the individual volumes, while more expensive, come with the DTS audio track. Something that the box set is unlikely to come with.

Well thats fine with me, I always thought the DTS disks were pointless.

It's mangas cheap boxes which make it a bit iff like DaNiMé said. My Eva movie boxset full apart for petes sake(the clear plastic bits inside which hold the disks) and I had to glue it all back together. That wasn't even a cheap(price anyway) set.

Well if you've got the setup for it, DTS sounds absolutely awesome. There really is a difference. Not that we've got a setup that can take advantage of that, but maybe sometime down the line.

In any case, 5.1 is still fine for me, but like everyone else, I'm waiting to find out whether the problems have been fixed and whether the box itself is OK.
