Ghost In The Shell: Arise UK DVD

Well the UK in general is a very price conscious market, just look at UK video game sales for proof. When you compare the price of anime with the price of other TV boxsets on BD, I can see where the £25 argument comes from. Of course anime is a special case anyway, there's many reasons it has to be comparably more expensive compared to more mass market titles.

At this time, I think there's mostly a good balance here with current UK anime price points. There's always going to be that fight between those who are extremely price-conscious and those who are willing to pay Japanese prices and all the various crowds in-between though.

In any case, this has reminded me that I still need to finish Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig.
I can see where you are coming from with this point to be honest. For the most part I don't buy games at full price - mainly because I've lost interest in them for the most part, and don't actually finish them anymore. On the flip side I've imported JP BDs, Most of Aniplex's BDs and US half series at £30-40 per half. I suppose part of it is because I now know a bit more about how the anime market works, therefore I understand why it's priced the way it is and I'm more likely to put money back into it. In my mind the price for the UK TTGL and Durarara sets are ridiculously cheap.

I guess the average fan looks at anime in the same way they would a US/UK cartoon - which is usually sold at a relatively low price point to make it more accessible.

On the Subject of Stand Alone Complex, how is the English Dub?
I've actually never watched it, and I'm contemplating eventually importing the JP sets, but there's no subtitles so I'd be stuck with the Dub.

Personally I feel happier sticking with the sub version.. The Japanese voice just has that tone and gravitas which never quite seems to cut it with dub, though I do curiously enough watch Kiki's Delivery Service in dub.. Hmmmm.. Lol.. I guess if you get it direct though it's a forced thing, or an excellent opportunity to practice your Japanese!?

Could you or anyone else care to elaborate a bit. I have always wondered why they charge £40-50 for a Blu-ray with only two episodes on it. It give me the impression that they think their stuff is gold dust and worth a mint.

I read once that the prices are high as the Japanese company's believe only collectors buy anime on BD and DVD and that the average person will just watch it on TV. Whether that's anything to do with the prices being so high, I don't know.

Could you imaging the uproar if one of the American company's decided to do that. Two episodes of ST:TNG, Arrow, Game of Thrones, etc and costing £40-50 per Blu-ray.

Essentially I think it's because the Japanese don't really do collections, and that's probably because living space is at a premium!!

I can see us getting it in 2016.

I think this because episode 3 of 4 doesn't come out in Japan until 8/6/2014. They are about 6 months apart, so add the last episode and the long time it takes to dub, then add more for us to get it.

I thought they might do a Hellsing Ultimate & release a couple of episodes at a time. So you would actually spread the releases out over a couple of years.
