Anime studio Gainax and car maker Subaru have teamed up to create a new magical girl anime named Hokago no Pleiades (Afterschool Pleiades), which will be streamed over the internet exclusively by YouTube.
The anime looks like a magical girl take on Subaru's name which, according to Subaru’s global website, is based upon a star cluster in the Taurus constellation known as Pleiades in English and Subaru in Japanese. “Six of its stars are visible to the naked eye…” hence the name and badge and the number of characters in the trailer.
Gainax have a lot of studio talent behind it including director Shouji Saeki who has worked on Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri and Strike Witches 2. They have posted a 46-second video trailer for Hokago no Pleiades which can be viewed in high-definition on YouTube when the anime premieres on the 1st of February.

Thanks for the info, sounds interesting!!

Not trying to be controversial or anything but the names Mahoromatic and strike witches make me shudder, so if that Shouji Saeki is behind them, I would consider him an untalent(or maybe talented and making bad anime?) rather than a talent.

Looking at the trailer, they seemed the most appropriate anime to name-check... Other people have worked on stuff like Big O so there's a slim (very slim) chance it's not total nonsense. Not my cup of tea but it's free on YouTube.

Hmm I see. Probably not my kinda cup either.

But still in the 0.5% chance it has, it does actually turn out anything like Big O, what a result that would be!

You have watched gainax show's before right?, if there going to do a mahou shojo show, its going to be anything but normal.

I am not really a fan of mahou shojo anime.

I'm not racist. Some of my favourite shows are from Gainax. I was shedding tears at the end of this AMV.

Mahou shoujo. (how did you miss the accent in only one word)
Most mahou shoujo shows anyone watches aren't normal. Normal ones are kids shows, so get largely ignored.

They did re:Cutie Honey.

Let's not start this again. Shojo reads to English speakers like the word should be pronounced, Shoujo could easily be mispronounced Shoe-jo.* Rules don't count when they're wrong.**

The thing that interests me most about this show is how it's going to sell cars.

ayase, I'm kind of interested in your first publication, but I would definitely like to read the second one. :D

This has obvious potential, but what a strange time to come out (ie. when Madoka is currently being so awesome)... or does that just make it an even better time for it.

I normally try really hard to ignore these and live and let live, but what Reaper means here is that if you are going to say 'shojo', you may as well say 'maho' too. Dropping the sound on one part and not the other is confusing and implies that 'shojo' was deliberate. Because 'shojo' means something slightly different in Japanese, spelling it inconsistently can cause embarrassing misinterpretations.

Incidentally as a native English speaker, if I didn't know how to say 'shoujo' and saw 'shojo', I'd almost certainly mutilate the pronunciation completely anyway (probably shoj-o, with the first 'o' as in 'orange').

I never really get the (mostly American) obsession with putting 'h's into long vowel sounds either to make them easier to pronounce, as it...doesn't for me. The [arbitrary] accent some people use over the long sound is a slightly more acceptable compromise. I.e. shōjo vs shojo vs shoujo.

Having said the above, I don't think it's that worthwhile correcting individual Japanese romanised spellings on a forum where almost every other post has an English language grammar or spelling error anyway. :)

I'll put you down for a signed, personalised copy of Volume 28 when it comes out in the Summer.
