FUNimation get Gunslinger Girl 2, plus much more

Currently enjoying at least three (soon to be four) new anime acquisitions, US anime distributor FUNimation are working their way through this week by announcing one new license every evening. So far, their newly bought anime includes:

The first 26 episodes (out of a potential 50) of martial arts comedy KenIchi The Mightiest Disciple (2006)

All 12 episodes of shojo (girls) romantic drama Mamotte! Lollipop (2006)

The 15 episodes-long TV sequel to the popular Gunslinger Girl series, Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- (2008). As it's name suggests, this is a sober (and relatively mature) action story about a group of (female) children who are brainwashed and used as specialist government assasains.

Adding to the above, at least one further new license is being promised by FUNimation and will most likely be announced tomorrow (Thursday) evening via their official website. It's worth noting that they release a lot of their anime (for example, Fullmetal Alchemist and the first Gunslinger Girl series) in the UK via Revelation Films, therefore, it's now quite possible that one or more of the above series will eventually see a UK DVD release too.

Time for a guessing game... See the image below? It's from the FUNi website. The silhouette is from their newest license, which should be announced at some point tomorrow. It looks vaguely like a mecha anime, but I've no idea what it could be... Any suggestions? The winner gets to choose a special forum title/rank to go under their name ;)

It's probably some Gonzo animu, I'm guessing Bokurano or that Guyver rip-off, Blassreiter. Also, **** YES, second season of Gunslinger Girl, I'm gonna buy that, I'd like to watch it dubbed as opposed to subbed.

EDIT: Oh, could also be Dragonaut.

Its Heroic Age. Arbalest guessed it. The images of that mech in the blacked out image and the actual mech in the show match-up. Bit disappointing, really.

Heroic Age makes sense but taking a second look it does look a bit like dragonaut, i'd guess its one or the other though.

Based on what I've read elsewhere, I'm 99% sure it's not either of those series. Try again :)

Never, ever even heard of that series. Bit more disappointing than Heroic Age, really. Out of them four, I may check out Kenichi since I've heard good things.

They need to give word on when they are releasing the titles they anounced last year, though. People are gettin' a bit annoyed. It seems they've put a helluva lot of energy into the One Piece release and marketting that Shin-Chan release, as well and now there is time for them to focus on other stuff, moreso...maybe.. I dunno.

I really wanted to like the second season of Gunslinger Girl but it's such a massive downgrade in quality from the first series that I'd prefer to pretend that it doesn't exist.

Also the silhouette does look like the Soukou no Strain promo art. In fact it is. :p

I think Revelation Films should release Shin-Chan over here, I'd buy it.
I would, as well. From the parts I've seen of their dub, Its funny as ****. I used to watch the Phuuz dub when it was on.. FOX Kids (I think) I don't remember much from that, I liked it, though.

It'd be fairly inexpensive, having only the dub track and all.

I really want Gunslinger Girl 2, but have a feeling I am going to be so disappointed especially due to how much I love the first series.

My feelings exactly, I watched the first few eps but I just couldn't get into it. It's a shame that Madhouse wasn't onboard for the second series, it would almost be gauranteed to be better.

Tomorrow's announcement is a lot more cryptic. I've no idea about it, but I wouldn't bet it on being anything big. Seems like FUNimation are bringing out a bunch of mediocre anime... Were they cheap to purchase, or is this a strategy? Given DVD sales continue to fall, it's a little weird that they've gone and picked up four C-list rated anime series. It's like ADV all over again.

Anyway, guesses for tomorrow's license?

My guess was slightly off then, at least i was right on the dot with the idea of Mecha. The next one looks different, i thought for a bit that it could be a live action one, but it quite possibly won't be. Its not exactly a clear image so its hard to tell =/

I was gonna watch that show ages ago, one episode in I was quite pleased.. then I dropped it. Oh well, I hope you're correct, potential dub of it would be awesome.
