The North American anime distributor Funimation confirmed with ANN that it will release The Legend of the Legendary Heroes (Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu) anime series in a DVD/Blu-ray Disc combo set next spring. The release will include English dubbing and subtitles. Funimation had made the announcement at the AnimeFest convention this past weekend.

The television anime series adapts Takaya Kagami's fantasy light novel series of the same name. In the story, a magic academy student named Ryner Lute and his long-time comrade Ferris set out on a search for the Heroic Relics at his emperor's command. Along the way, Ryner discovers that a deadly curse is spreading across the continent.

Itsuro Kawasaki (Arc the Lad, Chrome Shelled Regios, Sengoku Basara) directed the anime at the studio ZEXCS. Kiyoko Yoshimura (Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-, Linebarrels of Iron) oversaw the scripts, and character designer Noriko Shimazawa (D.C. II: Da Capo II, Otoboku - maidens are falling for me!) adapted Saori Toyota's original novel illustrations for animation. The 24-episode series premiered last year in Japan, and Funimation streamed it as it aired.

Thanks to asiansensation for the news tip.

Manga have asked followers on Twitter if any UK fans want it.

Oh wow, nice. I would hazard a random guess that I am close to being the biggest fan of the series in this country, but, er... I already have almost all of it on BD. ^^; I couldn't see it being a massive success for Manga, unless they managed to market it to a more general fantasy crowd (or convince them to make more anime rather than leaving the series just when it starts to get really good, ahem).

I see a purchase in my future! I've been wanting to see this but not enough to expend any actual effort. Since it's a combo pack in the US I'm not really interested in a UK release and I'm not sure how well fantasy-type stuff even sells here at the moment. There are probably more lucrative series for Manga to go after for now.
