Fist of the North Star

Morning all :D

I'd say about 10 years ago maybe more, my bro had the Fist of the North Star VHS film.

I absolutley loved it to bits and could'nt stop watching it. specially when he slowly pushes his fingers into his chest, I really felt his pain. And the MASSIVE giant with the even bigger gut gets his ass kicked, or belly!

Anyway, i cant find this on DVD or VHS anymore, I have looked on Amazon, Play and UK Anime, all they ahve are live action and the new ADV series :(

Can anyone help me locate this, in my eyes, classic anime!!

I think your best bet would be to try Ebay, i know Manga Ent brought a boxset out for it a while back but that must of been a very short run as it seemed to disappear afterwards, just becareful of bootlegs on ebay mind

Now im questioning myself, as I just did abit of research and apparently it was released in 1984 and was a series of 34 episodes in the west?

Anyway, im almost positive there was a film, it had a purple front cover. I think in the movie his brother had a massive burnt up face and had metal sheets nailed into his head and face to hide his disgusting figure.

When watching the VHS I dont ever remember there being next episodes etc. Yeah I looked on ebay and nothing, just the new ADV stuff

Hey,

Fist of the North Star was released in the UK by Manga Entertainment in 2004; (I think), however they only released the first 6 volumes. It was censored quite a bit as well; (Blood was some silver stuff).

Yep, thats the new ADV series that was released. Im talking about way way way before that one

hmm...Its funny as well as i know when Sci-Fi was airing anime a while back the old Fist of the North Star was one of the anime it shown. I did always think it was a little funny that it never got any other DVD relesaes in the west, but then again i think that about the original Guyver series as well. I would love to see the Guyver: Out of Control OVA in this country

It's bizarre that this isn't on DVD at the moment as it is definitely one of the classics that helped Manga carve their niche back in the day with quite a bit of name recognition still. Your best bet is probably to hold on a little longer - I can't see this staying out of print for too long. Or grab the US release if you can find it cheaply anywhere, it's out of print and rare though so prices are crazy most of the time.

This is getting a bit confusing. The new one by ADV your referring to(in your last reply) is "New Fist of the North Star". I am referring to the original series. This excerpt from wikipedia should clear it all up.

The first 36 episodes were licensed to Manga Entertainment and released in English dubbed and subtitled formats on VHS and DVD. Manga Entertainment initially released the series in eight VHS volumes spanning only 24 episodes in 1999 and later released all 36 episodes in five DVD volumes in 2003. The English dub of the show features a new soundtrack provided by Reinforced Records and voice acting by Animaze. The original opening and ending sequences were replaced by in-house versions produced by Manga Entertainment with music by Mike Egan. The dubbed version aired on Showtime Beyond in the US and on the Sci-Fi Channel in the UK.

I've also uploaded some pictures of the boxset Manga Entertainment released, containing the first 6 volumes:

ohhhhhhhhhhhh my god, yup I had it all wrong, I apologise

That IS THE FILM!!!!! wooooooooo Last time I check amazon it was'nt there. I assume they only have the VHS version!!
haha, actual bliss over here lol

Those DVD's are well out of print now unfortunately. If you manage to find them you'll be very lucky but also expect to pay through the roof for them. I wish I'd picked up the box set back in the day for £20 when I had the chance. The series has that certain nostalgia factor that makes it so watchable even though you know that technically it's god awful. :p

Yeah but, why not buy the VHS and then torrent it? Burn on to disc, print off a suitable image for the disc, get a nice box print off the artwork with HQ Paper/Ink. That way you dont need a VHS player cluttering up your area, and you would have bought it so you dont feel guilty about it. ;)

Ah fair enough then. Pity that :(

I was also looking for this anime.

I found out that on amazon.jp you can get it - But it is VERY expensive and only comes with japanese language, and no english subtitles. So I guess your going to have to look out for the manga release and hope your very lucky to pick up one for a good price.

ATA! ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA.

...

You're already dead.

I want to watch it myself, though I've got the manga to read, which won't last long as it hasn't all been translated. I wish Manga would license it again, it's truly worth investing in, shame they didn't keep the epic opening, it made the show. YOU WA SHOCK!
