Enterbrains Weekly Famitsu magazine confirmed that  "On the way to a smile Episode: Denzel", a spinoff novel based in the Final Fantasy VII world is to be animated for the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete release on April 16th in Japan. It will be available as an extra supplement on the Blu-Ray release and is set to be produced by A-1 pictures and BeSTACK.

The novels tell the story of what Danzel, Tifa and Barret did during the two years gap between Final Fantasy VII and Its CG animated sequel Advent Children written by scriptwriter Kazushige Nojima, who also worked on the Last Order anime. There is also another "On the Way to a Smile - Final Fantasy VII" novel due to be released around the same day as the Advent Children Complete release which is set to feature the original three novelettes along with new ones based around Yuffie, Turks and Red XIII.

The original version of Advent Children was released in the UK back in 2006.

Square Enix still squeezing out the very last penny they can from FF:VII I see.

I don't expect much, just more mediocre fan service.

The main focus is a character introduced in Advent Children. I don't see the attraction, he's not a character who's deep or a loli so Japan probably won't take to it. When I first watched Advent Children upon it's release subbed in like... 2005 I was like "Denzel? Who the hell is this?" Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo I didn't question though, they were just forgettable movie characters.

Whilst Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is an attrocious film with a legion of fantards who STILL won't admit it's a bad film, I actually found Denzel to be the most 'unfufilled' character out of the film. I do see a lot of potential in him, so I would watch it (illegally, that piece of crap isn't getting my money UNLESS there is a FFXIII demo in the western release) and see how Denzel get into AC.

Mind you, one person told me to take AC for what it is, A Hollywood-type film. And when you think about it, Advent Children is quite in the same league. But when you try follow-up to a game which has a interesting amount of depth to character (I know, it's a laugh, right?) with characters that has hardly evolved since then, it throws everything out of the window.

All I can say is: **** sells.

There was nothing particularly interesting about the character of Denzel, but I think using him as a main character in the explanation of the events following FFVII is a cool idea.

Aren't these type of things redundant since you would have assumed everything that's gone in between X and Y?

I don't think so. There's a lot of unanswered questions about what happened between FFVII's ending and Advent Children.

I read about this a few days ago.. and well it looks like I have something else to watch then.. I'm not sure about buying another FF7:AC DVD though (even though I didn't buy the other one).. depends on all the extra stuff that comes with it though I guess..

I'll be honest, if this can work on the flaws that the original AC had, then i'll gladly rate it a bit better, otherwise i'll be disappointed. ACC's trailer was quite nice, but that was only a trailer, and trailers more often than not make something look better. I'll watch it, but i don't expect it to be amazingly better.

As for "On the way to a Smile", i'll be honest, i'm a tad interested. AC maybe one thing, but that doesn't mean to say that the stories inbetween the film and game have to come under the same hate. I'll watch the Denzel one as i would any other anime, open to whatever it may bring. I would like to read the novellettes though. One thing about me is that i am more than willing give something a good read, and i can see some of them being decent.

Square are either too afraid to ****-up their best game by ramaking it, showing how they've fallen since their FFVII days, or are waiting until they've milked FFVII as much as humanly possible before releasing a remake as the last official FFVII related release. I'm going to guess there will be a remake one day because they've already made a PS3 trailer of sorts and it'd generate a shitload of cash.

Isn't Denzel the brat from AC; the one who lives with Tifa? If so, I can't see how it'll even be semi-interesting. If it's being worked on by the same people who did Last Order there's hope - that was 9/10 worthy, in my holy opinion - but Last Order dealt with the best part of the game, where as this is dealing with a filler kid (as in, a character no connected to the game) thrown into Advent Children. It'll most likely fail for all the reasons Last Order didn't.

going off topic but I agree with you Aion about them waiting and releasing the game again... I know I would get the remake because the original is my favourite game ever.. even though it had some major errors like Aerith talking after she was dead.. but hey.. if they don't mess with the battle system it would be worth buying..

Yeah he is that "brat".. but I think his story will be interesting anyway even though he's got nothing to do with the game.. or pretty much nothing else at all to be honest.. it's more of a "Hmm.. where's this going" interest one of the actual character..

Though this may as well get mentioned on here instead of making another topic for it. ACC's release on friday was huge, so much so that 100,000 Blu-Ray units where sold in one day, apparently thats far more than any other titles last year. All this comes from ANN. I think whether or not you love or hate it, it has to be said that its certainly an impressive amount, in just one day no less.

A lot of people bought it for the FF:XIII demo. I mean, I would if I could.

This.

You get around 40 minutes of demo time, which is easily more worth than the two hour film. And that Denzel episode if it turns out shite. I can see why it would sell well. Take out the FFXIII demo and it would sell less (though either way, it wouldn;t make a huge difference)

Eh, I wonder how much AC improved on anyway. Probably still turn out shite as expected.

I know a fair few that would think like that, and ok its only an extra half an hour added to it, but i still think that way of thinking is stupid. I may not have high hopes for it, but i'll still hold judgement for when it comes out and not assume anything. Denzels episode may turn out interesting specially since its from the novellettes between the game and movie(they have my interest caught at least) so i'll wait and see it at some point.

As for the demo, i'm not really after it much, mainly because i don't have a PS3, but also because i would probably neglect it and leave it on some shelf for god knows how long before i got to it.

True, but since I hate AC with every fiber of my being for many things done wrong, I can be a bit too biased. Well, I can take your advice and watch AC and its Denzel episode (and I said if with that, I think Denzel would be great now that he has a chance to fufil) to make a final judgment. But I hate all these FF7 spin-off that I wish FF7 never existed in the first place.

PS: WAIT, Crisis Core is an exception.
