Favourite Anime Soundtracks

I've just finished watching the TV series of The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, and I have to say that I really like the music in it, especially the opening and closing themes, "Just Think Like Tomorrow" and "Downtown Dance" - the later of which also appears again with different lyrics during the series when Tylor sings it at Admiral Hanner's funeral.

* Full version of "Just Think Like Tomorrow"
* Full version of "Downtown Dance"

Other favourite soundtracks of mine include would include tracks from Aria (Full version of opening theme "Euforia") and Gurren Lagann (Full version of opening theme "Sorairo Days").

What is everyone else's favourite pieces of anime music?

I'm not usually a big fan of the music used in anime. I've only ever bought a couple of soundtrack CD's and they were Beck and Soul Eater. I watched Baccano recently though and I liked the opening theme for that.

I have many hundreds of anime soundtracks so it's hard to choose! Some of my favourites are probably 12 Kingdoms, Seirei No Moribito, Utena and Jigoku Shoujo. Most of the really powerful instrumentals tend to be spoilerish as I latch onto the music when it's played in emotional scenes.

In general I love things with strings and female vocals, which tends to give me a lot to choose from.

One of my all time fav soundtracks is GITS:SAC and 2nd Gig. I pretty much like anything Yoko Kanno is involved with.

I like Serial Experiments Lain quite a lot. It has a lot of very strange moody music that makes everything feel weird and un easy.

When I am in the mood for cheese I will break out the Original Bubblegum Crisis music. It hasn't aged well but I love it.

Utena has the craziest sountrack.

Did someone say really powerful instrumentals?

My favourite anime soundtrack by a million miles is of course Giant Robo's by Masamichi Amano and the Warsaw Philharmonic. I'm not usually a fan of overblown orchestral bombast, but I can't think of a show it's better suited for than Giant Robo.

NANA's and Mushi-Shi's are fabulous as well.

In the English dub of Fist of the north star, it has a wicked Drum and bass soundtrack! I have tried So hard to find the soundtrack for the English dub! By FAR my favorite anime soundtrack!

I wish more animes had Drum and Bass/Jungle soundtracks! It would really go well with the action/fighting orientated animes.

All of Joe Hisaishi,s work for the Ghibli movies is just beautiful and the Joe Hisaishi in Budokan dvd is a beautiful viewing experience.

I second the comment about Joe Hisaishi, but for TV shows, not many of them stand out, Real Drive and Slayers are the only solid ones out there in my opinion

The Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor and Slayers soundtracks are probably my favourites if I'm picking overall series soundtracks as opposed to individual songs. If I'm doing the latter, my list would take up an entire page.

Anything Susumu Hirasawa or Kenji Kawai goes without saying.

If by "hasn't aged well" you mean "music in general has got worse" then fair enough (I was introduced to BGC via its music in a thread not dissimilar to this one)...

Escaflowne always tops mine. Great Jpop theme tune, and some great orchestral bits for battles.
Seconding this.

Pretty much anything by Yuki Kajiura. Specifically the soundtracks she did for Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome, since when I first watched them, I just adored the soundtrack .

Ensei
Mezame
MATERIALISE

I also love the soundtrack Kenji Kawai did for Higurashi.

Hyoui

And last but not least, Joe Hisashi. I pretty love all the soundtracks he did for the Studio Ghibli films.

I love OST/BGM and I buy much as I can (as they are expensive to import)

I don't really have a favourite so this is not in any order.

Naruto Shippuden
FMA & FMA:Brotherhood
Death Note.
Majority of Joe Hisaishi's work.

The one I have gotten in to lately is One Piece.

Evangelion has wicked soundtracks but don't own the CD's

And I do like that Escaflowne Battle Theme song even tho I haven't watched the anime.

It's already been said, but Susumu Hirasawa automatically wins for me.

Paranoia Agent - Escape

'Hello, again.'

Also, the music used for the Sakura Taisen various animations always finds favour. Something to do with the pleasent jazz being different to the norm.

Personally, I'm a massive fan of the Death Note OST. I know there's a lot of hate for the show at times but; I did feel the music created perfect atmosphere. It gets a regular listening.

Also, I'm a fan of the Witch Hunter Robin OST too. Although, some of the tracks don't work as well outside of the show; during the show and in context, they're marvellous. "Harry's" and "Allay Pain" being the highlights for me.

Suprised no ones brought up Wolfs Rain yet, definitely one of my favourites, so eclectic. Really helped elevate the series for me. Surely some of Yoko's best work.

Also I have to say Trigun, I don't know why but I just love the soundtrack to Trigun. But most of all its so good simply because it fits the show so well and creates a really good vibe.

Gotta agree with you there regarding Wolfs Rain even for people who dont like the show it always get regarded for having one of the best musical scores as you said all thanks to the genius of Yoko Kanno.
