Elemental Gelade

Well, after watching DeathNote up until episode 20 and finding my brain cannot cope with even one more cheese-filled gag or rushed filler episode, I decided to look for a short, sweet anime, full of fun and high adventure.

I went into my local WHSmith and browsed the oh-so-small Manga section, and came across Elemental Gelade, which I had heard of but held little interest in. After reading the first book in the shop, and I decided to watch the show. And guess what? I like it.

Now, while I can see from a mile off that Elemental Gelade will not challenge my brain or make me think much beyond the box, I am enjoying the show. I'm only a couple of episodes in now, but already it's proven to be fun and bubbly enough to hold my attention. It's also extremely reminiscent of the wonderful sky pirate RPG Skies Of Arcadia, which makes watching it a strangely familiar experience. o_O

I liked it well enough as you said nothing to taxing, but as with many anime scratch the surface and there are some quite serious issues on display. Only watched it once through so far now you reminded me about it I will watch it through again.

You're right, it is a fun series. The manga is completely different, though. It's full of over-the-top fan service - ruining what makes the anime good.

I like how the anime completely rips off Skies of Arcadia, though - especially in the first episode, which is almost identical to the intro of the game.

Indeed. From what I read of it, compared to the anime, it is very different. Which is a shame.

Also, would the show be classed as shoujo? I'm thinking so, because of the constant references to love, devotion, emotions and the like. If so, then I'm rather worried, as all I watch these days is shoujo. :p Personally, I think it's a bit of a mix, like Tenkuu no Escaflowne.

I think you may be right about it being shojo but it does have its action which is not just magic girl type stuff. Also as with a lot of anime there are deeper meanings and ideas in here. Just like Chobits and Dears the underlying story is about the slave like use of another being and whether it is right to do so if they are naturally or otherwise programmed to want to serve.

Yeah, the show definitely has action. :D

I thought Rem was really cute at first. Now she's annoying me. A bit like Misa in Death Note. Though unlike Misa, she's really submissive and quiet. *snarls* Then again, Coud is irritating, too. He's way too immature.
