Dragonball Z 22nd anniversary

Vampire Ninja
Well i made a topic about this last year, and im gonna do it again goddamit!

Well today marks Dragonball Zs 22nd birthday. It first aired in japan in 1989 April 26th and was shown on TV around the world and became a HUGE hit, and its easy to see why. It had atleast a dozen or more movies, a hell of alot of video games and a god awful movie based on the prequel to DBZ.

Im sure for most of us Dragonball Z was one of the first animes you saw. It was mine anyway. Everyday after school i would run home desperate to watch it. Then the next morning me and all my mates would be talking about it for ages. Goku was all our favourite characters. Even some of my freinds now days, who arent even anime fans to begin with, really like DBZ.

God i remeber watching it back in the day. When Majin Buu was introduced, the fighting got so damn intense! Luckily the DVD boxsets are multi regional, So i can watch DBZ when ever i like!

Dragonball Z is, whether you like it or not, one of the most influential animes ever made. Even the creators of Bleach, One Piece and Naruto said that DB was a big insperation for them.

Now i know alot of you are thinking its too slow and its a no brainer, and maybe it is, but you dont watch Dragonball Z for huge complex story lines, You watch it for fun and its insane fighting.

I know alot of you wont give a damn about what ive just wrote, but i just wanted take time to mention the anime that got me and loads others into anime.

So 22nd happy birthday Dragonball Z and thanks for reading.
DRAGON DRAGON ROCK THE DRAGON!!! DRAGONBALL Z!!!

Well said. I remember coming home and watching DBZ and Gundam Wing (*sigh*) all week, the only problem was my parents hating the constant screaming when characters were powering up. At one point my old man called it "a load of rubbish" and my brother and I would convince him time and time again that anime isnt for kids and that even adults watch these shows! Fast forward ~10 years later and now i'm the adult still watching anime...

Great show, and i'm still loving every minte of DBZ Kai.

It's kind of odd why Kai has stopped at the end of the Cell Saga. No Buu :(
It got axed, wasn't selling enough.
Not exactly. They said at the start that they were only gonna do around 100 episodes. They'll probably do the Buu saga if the Toriko anime goes on hiatus or ends.

Ahh man you gotta love Z. I really dislike Bleach, just dislike Naruto, completely disregard One piece(seriously what is it?), but Z I love DBZ. There are many imitators but there will never be another DBZ! Slow, repetitive, drawn out(Surely just one more episode now until Goku gets out of the HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER!????),but truely great imagination and character. Goku isn't my favourite though, Hercule is! I feel sorry for the kids of today, seeing how it isn't airing in the UK anymore.

But what's with this Kai thing, I really haven't been following it. Was it any good? It sounds like some didn't like it.

Oh and DBZ is nearly exactly the same age as me!! Coincidence?? I think not. I knew I was the real life Goku!

I'm the complete opposite. I really dislike Naruto (the earlier eps/chapters were ok), Bleach is OK and One Piece is pretty good.

Kai is a remake of Z upto the Cell saga. It recently finished in Japan and it's halfway through in the US. It's in HD and most of the filler is removed, plus there's a new soundtrack, which is being replaced on new releases.

So, really it just ended up being a HD version (but it's old animation, just retraced), with less filler. But now with the same soundtrack and no Buu saga. Bit pointless, IMO.

If it weren't for Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network, I doubt I would have ever gotten into Anime. Watching it again always fills me with a warm nostalgic feeling...

OP, Naruto and Bleach all have their own charms (and their own massive flaws, most definitely including OP), but there are extremely legit reasons why Dragon Ball became the phenom that it did, both in Japan and the West, and you can't take that away just because people who came along and were introduced to more recent series first like to take a somewhat recency-biased view of things.
