Dragon Ball Kai Canada/UK Dub coming

Having read rumors for the past few months that Dragon Ball Kai would be getting an alternate English dub for international release outside the USA just as DBZ, that seems to have been confirmed. Daizex posted a link to a podcast by Trevor Devall, a Canadian voice actor who's podcasts features other members of the Ocean Group. There he had Kirby Morrow on, who was the final Ocean voice for Goku in the international dub of DBZ. He procedes about half way through to spill the beans on the new production for release in Canada and English speaking European countries. He does say the rights have been purchased by another group who is holding auditions so it may not be ultimately the Ocean group doing it, just members of their group being cast in roles.

And the daizex post.

I for one am quite excited. While i do enjoy the Funimation dub, my memories of DBZ in english are of the Ocean dub. I wonder if one of the Manga and Beez liscences yet to be announced are the domestic release of this. I hope that is the case and it is not being done simply for TV broadcast as the Ocean dub of DBZ was. Let's hope the home release liscence issues have been somewhat resolved if only for Kai, i hear the Blu-ray release calling me.

I wont believe it till I see it but it would be great if such a thing did exist
It's happening, they're Voice Actors for Ocean, so they would know

I'm hoping this gets released on DVD, too, but it will probably be the Funi dub, since Manga are closer with them than Westwood Media

And we already have an English dub...

nothing says "We're Toei animation and we can piss money down the drain by commissioning a whole separate dub for Canada and Europe (but not the UK because sod the lot of you)

I just think this is completely unnecessary. Most Dragonball Z video-games, over here, have possessed the FUNimation voice-cast; I hoped that would lead to said voice-cast providing the dub for the U.K.

The voice-directors were quite correct about Mr. Morrow, mind; he does sound a bit too "cool" to be Goku. That said, I loved his performance, and even if his Goku wasn't a faithful rendition of the Japanese version, I preferred the sophistication he brought the character. That's a round-about way of saying I liked the wrong type of Goku, but I'm content to live with it.

I really do hope they do go through with a seperate for Canada and UK and if they lisence it over here that it would be the Canadian version (but manga rarely listens to the fans). Ocean groups is like the voice actors of my childhood and I would love to see them do DBZ again.

can i point out that Blue Water is most likely the company that would dub it if Ocean got the right

which means more of this

do not watch if you are screamish and have nightmares of barney the dinosaur

I don't really have much wrong with the first DB OP linked by Ryo. The Z one is pretty darn awful though.

Is there an actual licensing issue behind this, broadcast-wise?

That reminds me to pick up the DB Boxsets at auchinawa. Thanks.

During the lead-up to CNX, I think, there was a Dragonball Z promo set to some stirring operatic music; it had female vocals, I believe. I so desperately want to track that one down--it really got you in the mood for the show's return.
