The best example of this is Sailor Moon, the entire Alan and Ann (Ail & An) story arc from the "R" season was invented by the anime writer
I think that one was more a case of the anime getting ahead of the manga, but Sailor Moon in general is a minefield of changes for most of the above reasons.

Besides, I liked the first part of R, and the movie. Maybe Takeuchi was just upset that the anime writers were clearly having more fun writing their stuff than she was ...

I like the R movie and Ail & An too but I'm just pointing out how anime writers change manga books so completely that the manga and anime have absolutely nothing to do with each other!
The ONLY part of the Sailor Moon manga and the anime that is almost exact is volume 11 of the manga, which is infact the "S" movie!
Princess Kaguya's Lover , this is my very favourite story that I wrote all in one go as the original story for the '94 Summer Movie Sailor Moon S.
To tell the truth I was really stressed by the fact that I let other people do the Sailor Moon R movie in '93. Apparently in the business, "movies have to be completely original" is the rule. But I was a little sad, as it is my work but I tackled that rule and took on this job. I made a lot of trouble for some people in doing so and I'd like to apologise for it.
I wonder if Sailor Moon's anime world got a little confused by the author sticking her head where it doesn't belong (thinking this makes me very sad).
I'm really satisfied to have been able to work on the movie, I learned a lot too! It was a lot of fun. The movie posters were made after one of my pictures too. I'm glad I did it.
I'm so happy that you could make such a wonderful work so close to my original. Thankyou so very much. I am so grateful.

These are Naoko Takeuchi's very words from the manga book for the movie. Her words are so very sad and I feel dreadfully sorry for her! These words also give more insight into just how little say a manga-ka has when their work is animated.
I would also like to just point out that Princess Kaguya and all the Snow Dancers were based on 1920's glass statues and if I had a scanner I would scan the pictures, as you can see how much hard work Naoko put into the S movie!!

I read the Chobits manga. :D

I haven't really had the chance to read any others because I'm kinda new to this anime thing. My friend KittySeras introduced me to this website and I was really interested in anime, so she lent me some manga and a few DVDs. I really love anime but I sometimes don't know what your on about!

I completely forgot i had said something on this topic. Thanks for the information on GTO, it sounds interesting although now it's another series i don't know whether to try the anime or the manga of first

I went to my local Ottakars (thats a laught, we had to drive 30 miles to get there), i was going to get myself a English-Japanese dictionary....but there was just so much manga, it must be really taking off as the stand is alot begger and the selection is great. It goes without saying that the manga won over the dictionary. I had such a hard time deciding but in the end i bought Mars Volume 1, Eerie Queerie Volume 2 and Pita Ten for my sister, i think i must have been standing there with a handful of manga trying to decide which one to get for at least half an hour

My Ottakars has so many manga titles on its shelves now , its great! And they seem to have all volumes in stock aswell, which is of course even better. The American comic section has been confined to about 2 single shelves with manga covering about six whole bookcases now. Its nice to see it becoming so prevelant in English stores as this time last year , I cant remember seeing any whatsoever.

same here - my local branch has most of the Chobits manga (which i'm quite enjoying, surprisingly), plus DNAngel, Cowboy Bebop and the first two volumes of Akira to name a few. it's good to see it's being given some attention by high street stores, although i doubt many people in this rural backwater are interested in it...

I would have let you have my Pita-ten for your sister! I can't stand it and neither of my older kids liked it either!!
Darn, thanks for the gesture anyway :) , i'm not sure what my sister thinks of it yet

And i know what you mean MangaMinX, this time last i don't remember there being anything, thats some great progress in a year

I read more manga than I care to mention, I'm currently addicted to the works of CLAMP . The great thing is you can pick up a tokyopop, viz or del ray tankoubon for around six quid, that's alot of pages for a little money making it incredibly cheap to collect a series........or ten.

Thats my problem. To buy an anime dvd it cost around £20 but for that i can buy 3 volumes of manga. I always think "ah, six pounds isn't much" and so i feel like i can always buy more than one....of course the thing i never really think about until i get to the till is that it does add up

Or even 30!! and then you find out the series you like the most has 10-20 volumes! I stopped collecting Dragon Knights when I found out there was going to be 21 volumes  (that's over £120!!).

I do that as well, manga seems so much cheaper until you realise how many volumes it has. Ottakers is where i get most of my manga from I have started to find in the various stores I go to the collections are getting bigger and bigger each time although in one ottakers I have been in the had about 4 different titles while in others 4-6 shelves full of different titles. A while ago in ottakers in gloucester the manga was kept right next to the erotic novels. Whcih was a bit embarrassing when people thought you were looking at those when you were actually looking at manga, but they ave moved it now.

He, he, i can imagin the looks you must have been getting, i imagin it would be the same as when i try and look at the film magazines in the newagent while trying to make it clear to the other people in the shop that i'm not looking at the soft porn magazines positioned all around them.

I remember one time i was at Ottakars there was this young boy also looking at them, and when his mum saw she quickly rushed over, gave me an almost disgusted look and told her son that 'those books are much too old for you', i'm betting she was influenced by something she had read in the newspapers

Neh -_- The anime section in virgin megastores in bluewater used to be opposite the dirty videos. I enjoy watching people walk past that section. Their facial expressions make me laugh.

That woman shouldn't believe everything the papers say! and anyway she shouldn't have given you a disgusted look! you should have smacked across the mouth  Just kidding.

i have only started to read manga since last year, its really hard to find them in bookshops unless you are in bluewater or in a big city like canterbury, but toyko pop's sales are growing very fast over here. is that because toyko pop is the only that has been planned to be brought over here or is it that they are just trying it out with toykopop and if it is good viz and other manga publishers will bring there's over here?

I believe a company is meant to be bringing some Viz manga titles to shelves over here eventually for them. I read it a while back :) . Can't remember which titles exactly mind.

You can actually buy some Dark Horse manga in bookstores here too, not just Tokyopop.

iirc, it's Gollancz that are bringing over Viz titles, their first scheduled releases are volume 1 of Fushigi Yuugi, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Case Closed and Dragonball. That was announced a while back, but I haven't heard any timeframe for releasing them.
