Do you have more motivation to watch anime you own on DVD?

It really sucks that I'm too much of a pussy to get a cheap HDTV. The ability to watch downloaded, HD content for free would leave me with no other option but to watch as much HD anime as possible.

I think I'd need to upgrade my ****** computer, though - when I tried hooking my PC up to the TV I had for a week using a VGA cable, it looked horrible; like backlight bleed was obscuring the image or something. It'd cost me a lot of money; getting a decent TV AND a semi-decent computer/graphics card.

The plus side of not being able to is that I feel the need to buy DVDs. If I could watch anime in HD on my TV for free, it wouldn't exactly be tempting.
 
I don't have a HDTV. One of my previous house mates did but he's left so no HDTV again. I like owning a collection and being able to take out a DVD and put it on, having something permanent that I can touch.
 
I prefer watching DVDs on the TV, even if I have to have my glasses on to read the subtitles, and as such not be able to lay down as easily :lol:

However I often find DVDs tend to collect dust as I know they're there. I work through streamed anime (e.g. crunchyroll) and anime from "other sources" first as I'm always worried they might be removed, or the computer may be corrupted etc. Also at university getting a DVD involves getting a box out from under the bed, going through it and finding the volume I want. As a lazy person, clicking something is much easier :p
 
Well, I generally never buy anime I haven't seen, unless it's by Studio Ghibli. :p I made that mistake with Buso Renkin. I got the first OHSHC DVD for my birthday a couple of months ago; watched the first three episodes, and since then it's been sitting idle on my shelf. I saw the whole series on the internet... Even if I know the series is good, I'm still not that keen to watch the DVD. I guess I just like having it.

Well yeah. You have a big TV. Mine is small and in a good position for me to sit at my PC or lie on my bed to watch DVDs. It also takes up less space.
 
Watched Niea_7 on fansub on my laptop. Then bought the DVDs and watched them on my TV. An infinite improvement in the viewing experience. It's not just fansubs either. I watched Funimation's offical stream of Negima!? from their web portal when they weren't ignoring British fans. Then I watched it on Manga's DVDs on my TV, Far more enjoyable an experience.

10 minutes into a video stream, I always find that I'm pausing it and checking my e-mail, surfing forums quickly to see if a thread has been replied to. Frankly, they don't need to stick adverts in the middle, I'm recreating the experience myself.
 
All the anime I'm watching right now is actually through the use of the internet, but I do enjoy watching anime on DVD more, I don't get distracted by things so I can have a big session and manage like 6 episodes + at once.
 
I don't find watching on the internet distracting at all, unless there's a big flashing advert or something beside the thing I'm trying to watch. I mean, if you're watching something interesting then why would you suddenly pause and go check your email? I'd only do something like that if I was pretty darn bored with what I was watching...

Because it's a computer, the keyboard and mouse tempt me! Besides. I just can't get comfortable watching a monitor.
 
I really prefer watching it on DVD and I'm happy to wait for the new DtB releases (for instance) on DVD rather then going and streaming it or something. I only stream FMA:B and to be honest I might not even stream that if I didn't already know the storyline.
 
I don't find watching anime online distracting and I do watch online before I buy it to see what the series is like, but I prefer watching anime on TV, sitting back in a chair or sofa. It's more comfortable I think than sitting in front of a computer screen but it probably depends on your set up
