Do you ever get the feeling...?

When your watching a series and you think "This story is getting dragged on a bit, whats going to happen in the final episode!?"
Then, when you finish the final episode, you think "Why dont they carry this series on?"

I just finished watching Welcome to the NHK, thought it was brilliantly done. As i was watching and i got to about episode 18 ish i was thinking that everything was dragging along slowly. Then when i watched the final episode, i really wanted to know what happens next!
Its so frustrating when they dont continue good series :p Ive had it quite a few times now...

Anyone else have this problem?
Dunno if this really is a problem... but im starting to drag on myself now so im going to stop it here... :D

I know what you mean... I could probably have loved at least 26 more episodes of Cowboy Bebop.

With that said, one of things I think I love about anime is that we get closure (yes, I'm aware of never-ending Shonen Jump anime). It just feels "proper" when we get an ending that climaxes with something like character development, compare this with the typical US cartoon (like The Simpsons or whatever) and you start to see that, actually, probably a massive reason for us being anime fans is simply because we get serial stories with a beginning, middle and end.

Hmm yer i geuss thats a valid point. Can i just say i didnt expect anyone else to be checking these forums at this time of night like i do :p anyway getting back onto the point...

I do believe ending a series is sometimes a good thing, but if they create another season then you dont 'have' to watch it cause its the start of a whole new story. Ouran high host club is the ones id most want a second season of i think :D Just to see more character development.

I got rather bored with Get Backers at various points, but with the ending being the way it was,I was left wanting more.I'd love to see some more episodes for Get Backers without a doubt.

Maybe we should start a 'What series would you most like to be continued?' thread? :p
Just looked at getbackers, although its a comedy (which i like) it doesnt really sound like my kind of series :)

I've had that with a couple of series, most though i've always found they end reasonably well. Bebop is one i would love to see more, but with the way it ended, i wouldn't see how they could. Though i guess they could do a prologue say for Spike.

I'm ashamed to say it,but I only saw the end of Cowboy Bebop about a week ago.I was suprised,as I had read something completely different about what happens at the end.But yeah, despite how it ended I'd love to see more Bebop.

I think this is the problem I had with the recent Guyver anime. By the time the last episode ended, the story didn't feel anywhere near complete.

Tell me about it, there is a lot more of the manga they can cover, but i think that's still ongoing if it hasn't been cancelled. I want to see Gigantic Dark! Which is Guyver 3 inside the gigantic armour that sho uses in the last ep Though i doubt the story will be concoluded with just another season looking by some of the manga storylines

i think that yurning for wanting more is what makes a series truely iconic.

i would love a bebop sequal... but be carefull what you wish for, 9 out of 10 times youll be disapointed. nadesico the movie to name but 1 of those disapointments.

Yeah I have seen many series over the years that should have only been 12 eps instead of the full 24, I can understand filler eps in series like Bleach and Naruto and One Peice because they have been running so long and have to wait for the mangas to get ahead but short series have no excuse for these pointless eps.

However on the same note I hate it when series seem too short when they end early and you feel cheated, whether thats because they end at 12 and needed 24 or the final ep has every storyline summed up in a rushed and clumsy way it just feels like the whole series is ruined because of the failings of one ep.

One thing to remember with a lot of anime is that they are being adapted from currently running manga which has yet to complete. As Paul has said, with most of the Shounen Jump series they are ongoing, telling the story in arcs and running continuously.

The real problem is that once a manga has finished its run its popularity (in Japan) quickly begins to fade so a TV series is not viewed as a viable commodity at that time. This unfortunately leads to a catch 22 where anime series are produced when manga are at their height of popularity, which means that the authors will be encouraged to continue with the story and the anime will only ever show a part of the whole because of this.

It all makes perfect sense from an economic point of view but does leave us with the frustration of many series that are incomplete stories and only tell on part of a whole.

As far as Cowboy Beebop went, I think the series told as much as it could and couldn't really go any further without reverting back to the episodic style at the start of the series.

The main series that pops into head when i think about a story not ending was Monster Princess. On the final episode their is nothing towards the main story and its just a little filler thing... why put a filler as a last episode? :p

I know exactly what you all mean. I loved Bebop ALOT, but wouldn't want another series incase it ruined it for me. It had a start and an end so that's how it should stay really. Wanting more but not getting it is what makes the series so legendary (as skikes said earlier).

Few Series I'd wanted to see more of was Blood+. It got a lil draggy in the middle like others some of you mentioned. By the end though I just wanted to know what happens in the future.

Animes that have been derived from unfinished mangas are always going to be a thorn in the side (well to non manga readers anyway). Take Claymore for example. I thought it was an awesome series untill the last few episodes. It seemed to go a bit off the rails. The Claymore manga on the other hand hadn't even reached that point in the story. So did they make an ending up? All I know is it ended poorly and I want more!! DX

Cowboy Bebop is definitely a series I could watch more of. Never felt like it was "dragging on" either.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a series that could do with another 51 episodes, I think! Studio Bones took the manga story and infinitely improved upon it, so there's no doubt in my mind that they could continue to make FMA awesome (and, indeed, they did with the movie; but I still want more FMA!).

... the movie was terrible.

I hope they carry FMA on... this time following the manga. >_>

There's nothing else to do in BONES adapation, at all.

I have felt that quite a few anime I have watched I wanted more of because either I really got into the story or the characters. Although in some cases it was probably because there was supposed to be more seasons that had not been made like Gunslinger Girl or the licences had not been picked up yet. I think there was more story to be told in Trinity Blood.
