I borrowed the manga from the library last year, but it's beginning to fade in my mind. Incidentally if you ignored the thread title. SPOILERS!!!!






I've now gotten to the final two discs of the anime, which Manga are releasing as one single set, so phew, and I've just watched the anime episode, Father.



Can someone confirm to me something about the manga which I don't have at hand. I seem to recall that after the Mello hideout incident, when Souichiro Yagami (Light's dad) was in his hospital bed with the Shinigami eyes. I'm sure I remember reading that he realised that Light was Kira at that moment. Did this actually happen in the manga?

If so, then I guess the anime has started to diverge a bit from the original storyline.


Of course it could just be in my head, thinking that it would be more dramatic if Light's father finally found out the truth about his son.

Yeah, though it would stop there anyway, unless Light manages to escape and becomes a 'criminal' to the law.
 
Light's dad saw the numbers above Light's head because he'd given up ownership of the Death Note. Light kept his memories because he had a Death Note attached to himself.

Light used the fact Light's dad couldn't see what would've shown him to be Kira to trick both his father and everyone else. His father died thinking his son was innocent, which was a small mercy for a man who had been driven to death by his own son.

Also, that scene is related to the most confusing Death Note ownership transfer. Light was holding onto the Death Note his dad held when he died, meaning the ownership transfered to Light the moment Light's dad died. It was never explained in the manga and got pretty confusing later on when Light removed the Death Note he had attached to himself, gave it someone else and still kept his memories.
