DBZ and FMA remakes!

What i would like to know is this:

What is Dragonball Kai? and what is Fullmetal alchemist:brotherhood?

Are they remakes? Why would Dragonball z and Fullmetal alchemist need a remake?

So if some could be kind enough to tell me what they are i would appriciate it! :)

Dragonball Kai is a redited Dragonball Z :) They've spruced up the animation and have cut the fights to make them shorter and have got all the filler episodes out i believe.

FMA: Brotherhood is a retelling of the story so its closer to the original Manga (the manga should be ending soon i think)

Dragonball Kai has been reduced to only 100 episodes, so yeah everything that was added as an extra seems to have been removed and now its just the canon stuff from the manga.

FMA: Brotherhood is as said above, its a retelling done which is set to follow the manga more closely. The first episode so far was more of an introductory..or you could say fan service episode just to re-introduce the characters, but it looks to be coming back to the canon stuff next episode.

DBK - I don't know if the fights will be shorter but they might knock down the powering up fillers a bit.. they were a bit over the time at times.

I have seen the first ep (that was released last weekend) of DragonBall Kai. Gotta love the brand spanking new intro and ending. But it is rather depressing when it gets to the old, old animation and art of the actual episode. Should still be an interesting watch though and, of course, it reduces alot of peoples' compaints about the filler episodes and extended fight scenes (not my compaints by the way).

So yeh - lowdown as far as I understand it:
-New intro/ending including music and animation.
-A redubbing of all lines by the original (for the most part) japanese voice cast.
-Cleaned up episodes for HD.
-Condensed to keep closer to the Manga.
-New background music and sound effects.

Also I really can't stand the japanese voices, especially gokus...is that guy (or woman as I have a feeling it might be) on bloody helium or something...

Goku's seiyuu is a women in her seventies. I really like Vegeta's Japanese voice, doesn't sound as brutish and stupid.

It must be said, DBZ is a series I prefer to watch in dub. Some of the voices of the Japanese version of questionable.

Still, i'll be watching DBKai to see what it's like. I have seen the first episode, and it is quite strange to go from the new animation in the intro and then the original animation. It would've been really cool if they had re-animated it.

I'll be following DBKai also. Although I echo the thoughts about the Japanese voices (having grown up with the English dub on tv it is slightly odd).

And I definately agree there. I was at least expecting them to sharpen up the actual episodes, haha.

Ya know, I could go for this for some of the similarily aged stuff in Toei's library.

Wide Screen, rescanned Sailor Moon that mirrors the manga (Mind you they'd have to all but reanimate Stars because that was such a mess it wasn't funny)? Yes please.

At this point I'd take Stars as VHS rips, encoded by Funi, spellchecked by MB and packaged in old newspaper. How this hasn't been allowed even a limited R1 release (sub only) is one of those things I can never understand. It wasn't the highest quality arc in every respect but it was enjoyable enough when I first saw it to make me want to see it again.

I'd support any Sailor Moon rerelease without a second thought.

I'd second that. I actually tried to see if I could get it, but apparently it's impossible now.

I've seen most of it on the telly, a long, long time ago. Not sure I've seen the end though, can't really remember.

Well, here's were we have to openly admit our difrences, cuz I think Stars was a brillant 14 ep series that started with what was in effect GaoGaiGar Final before such a thing existed and ended with what was a slightly toned down but none the less decent bookend for the Sailor Moon Saga.

It's a bloody shame, however that it's in effect, a 13 episode seres that has this massive 20 episode tumor that had the pus of monster-of-the-day in it and it served to weaken the poor horse well before it's due.

And the less said about the Starlights, well, the better.

But I digress, DBK, awesomeness.
