CPM licenses to be liquidated

The Boss
from ANN

The New York company MYC & Associates is liquidating the licenses of the bankrupt anime distributor Central Park Media (CPM). David Kittay, the trustee that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York assigned to handle CPM's assets, appointed MYC & Associates to handle the liquidation.

MYC & Associates has provided a list of CPM's former assets, including the partial listing of copyrights below. However, CPM did not retain permanent ownership of most of these titles, so many of these copyrights cover only the materials that CPM itself produced, such as subtitles, dubbing, and packaging. Darkside Blues, Grave of the Fireflies, M.D. Geist., and Now and Then, Here and There have already been acquired by A.D. Vision for DVD reissues.

According to Justin Sevakis, CPM only owns the dubbing, subtitling and DVD menus/extras (etc). The copyrights to these features are all that the liquidator is putting up for sale; the shows themselves still need to be re-licensed from the Japanese copyright holders.

I'm glad we already have New Dominion Tank Police here. Unfortunately many other older titles are now in an indefinite state of flux, until able companies (i.e. Funimation and possibly somebody else) take advantage of these offers.

What does liquidating the licenses mean?
selling for the best offer.

Tokyo Babylon
Loddoss TV & OVA
Utena

These are the titles I would like to have. Other than that, there is nothing that I care about (except for patlabor and slayers, but I've got these already).

I hope someone picks up Patlabor at least. It would be terrible for that were to no longer be available in English (but please guys, don't use CPM's naff cover designs). Seems like it would be a sensible move for AnimEigo to pick up Beautiful Dreamer to complete their UY movie set.

Other than that it would be nice to see Night on the Galactic Railroad, Gall Force, Wanna-Be's and Cyber City picked up as well - mainly because I don't own those but would very much like to.

I was about to lament the loss of the underappreciated Iria: Zeiram the Animation when I remembered that Media Blasters have owned the licence for years. D'oh. But at least it gives me a good opportunity to recommend that people check it out.

I'd love to see Patlabor rescued (and remastered and with better packaging) but sadly I don't think anyone will touch it. I'm surprised that Lodoss hasn't already been picked up by ADV since they own Legend of Crystania and Rune Soldier, both of which are set in the same universe, and because the OVA is still highly regarded. I kind of regret not buying the TV series while it was available.

Eh, aside from that it would be a terrible shame if Beautiful Dreamer, Roujin Z, and Cyber City were never seen again. Looking through that list I'm struck by how CPM's shows fell into two broad categories: utterly fantastic or bottom-of-the-barrel garbage.

In R2, it's available from Beez, so we are safe :)

I must say that the special editions are REALLY sexy.

Same universe? Mmm, I'm interested now, really interested.

Edit - found some used copies on amazon, fulfilled by amazon itself. I guess I'll buy those. Can't believe I completely forgot about this series. I've seen Lodoss a long time ago, but I even brought the books with me whne I moved to London, as i couldn't find the heart to leave them at my mum's house.

Nah, I have those chaos. I'm talking about the Patlabor TV series and OVA's CPM released which have never been released over here. (though for those to be released by Beez in similarly sexy boxes would be awesomely awesome. ;)) I own them all already but it seems a shame for such a classic series to disappear.

Yes. I've been meaning to watch more of the franchise, but lack of contemporary licences currently prevent me. I could try browsing the R1 second-hand market for the TV series, but my interest isn't high enough to start blindly paying obsessive collectors' prices.

There's like 3-4 series that i'd get from CPM, their other stuff where oddities or hentai, not worth it.
But for many individuals that still want to collect some of their shows, we hope that their former titles won't skyrocket like Geneons', where £34 may just get you a dozen ep.

Slayers is cheap, i mean really cheap, for when it comes to getting the seasons. Last thing we want is to spend £50 or more for one
