Comedy anime

if you compare naruto and pokemon, filler affects them in completely different ways.

Naruto had a story to follow, the anime caught up with the manga and to suppress the fans they just had to start making filler episodes and give the manga chance to flow for itself again.

The anime of SHippuden is miles behind the manga, which is why shippuden will be a much bigger hit than the original naruto was.

Pokemon on the other hand, without the filler it wouldn't have been as interesting imo. There's 9 badges to collect, each gym leader has between 2 and 4 pokemon in the original series. So to sit through and watch it from start to finish wouldn't be anymore than 23 episodes. The point that they where travelling across kanto was a good thing for filler, it made things more interesting. I mean... whats the point of having hundreds of monsters if the main story is just to fight the gym leaders and get to the tournament thing at the end, they've have only covered 1/4 of the total pokemon at best.

So for some shows, filler is good at bulking out the storylines (even though filler is usually episodical) and for other shows it can really drag the story along and ruin it.

So, very hit and miss.

to be honest -Tachi- i dont mind the fillers.
i just if the fillers was between arec instead of being a clutter at the end of the series of naruto it would be better and i agree with one of the fillers the ultimate wepoen arec at the end of naruto was a good filler to me
i mean we see the fight with sasuke and naruto then its all filler the last episode is important to the series tho episode 220

I'm also keen on Hyper Police, but so far I've only read the manga. I do plan to get the anime eventually.
A few years back I lucked out and got all 6 DVDs on ebay for about £15. It's a fun show, albeit one that takes itself a bit too seriously at times (one episode stands out being particularly incongruous in that regard). But mostly it's light and breezy and occasionally very strange...

Pokémon doesn't have filler.
Yes it did, most of the bits traveling between towns (except when they catch a new pokemon), quite a lot of them realy dragged on as well.

i like all three of them

i think it was Negima?! that i saw and hated. though i can't be too sure because it was literally 2 episodes then time to take it out of the dvd player.

Nichijou is really not funny.

It's all about Squid Girl and Detroit Metal City.

DMC is like "What if Panty & Stocking was funny w/ metal?"

Arguably just slow pacing. There's no source material and what one person may consider important to them in the games may not be another's.

I liked DMC for the first couple of episodes but then the joke (the one joke) got very tired.

I found Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan very funny.

Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl had its moments too.

FMP FUMOFFU is a classic and hope will get some more FMP at some point.

I also liked Ai Yori Aoshi, Love Hina, Great Teacher Onizuka, Tenchi and as a guilty pleasure Golden Boy.

Fixed. Besides at least since Kanto, the anime has focused more on the villainous teams and Ash's rivals (The Diamond & Pearl series was heavily praised for both). It's such a shame that the Earthquake/Tsunami has meant that the Team Plasma and Team Rocket plots are on hold (The Team Rocket vs Team Plasma 2-parter that was supposed to air in March was delayed indefinitely. TVTokyo have said the episode will air at a later date, and another delayed episode will be airing next month).

The thing with Pokémon, is it isn't an adaptation of a story persay; it's an advertisement for the games. For example, the Diamond & Pearl saga of the anime was there for one reason - to advertise Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version.

Each "generation" of Pokémon lasts about four years, so the anime team had to keep Ash, Brock and Dawn in the Sinnoh region until Game Freak were ready to release a new generation. Unlike what they did with the Advanced Generation series, they didn't make Ash et al travel to an old region to advertise remakes (FireRed and LeafGreen versions), instead, they featured Johto-native Pokémon a lot (Look at the movie Zoroark: Master of Illusions for example, which as well as showing upcoming Black/White Pokémon, featured Raikou, Entei, Suicune and Celebi - G/S era Pokémon).

One infamous example of taking time is that in the DP season, there was over a whole year in Japan between Ash's 7th Gym Battle and his 8th (although that time did feature the finale of the Team Galactic plot). This was most likely because the anime team had planned on the new generation being out by then (As Generation IV, the first DS generation, was the longest of them all).

So in Pokémon's case, filler is needed for business xD[/b]

While I'm doubtful about how well it would play to a non-anime watching audience (I've seen one person at a loss for words after watching it), one comedy series I think really deserves more attention is Sexy Commando.

Despite sounding like some kind of cosplay-related hentai title, it's actually a very funny series about the exploits of an inept martial-arts club dedicated to the titular fighting style. Dragged along by the clearly insane Masaru, our hapless heroes square off against school bullies, aliens and shifty gangster types, relying only on the advice of their sacred text (looks like a girlie mag) which states that to win, they must get the element of surprise by any means possible.

Coming across like a hybrid of Excel Saga and Cromartie High School, most of the gags rely on visual or verbal puns and frequent non-sequitors. It's the sort of show where the recipient of a particularly strong punch ends up in another series. Witness Masaru's Eddie Izzard-esque attempts to woo a girl into becoming the club manager (whether or not she's read Drucker's guide, I couldn't say):

Each episode is only ten minutes long, so I would strongly urge everyone to at least give it a shot.

I'm guessing School Rumble got mentioned already, it should pretty much be the beginning and the end of the thread. Also K-ON!.

The bits with Hakase and Nano aren't funny. The other bits are like if Stewart Lee made an anime. Definitely funny, but not everyone is going to laugh at them.
