Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion licensed

The Boss
Unfortunately, it has not been officially confirmed, but at today's London Expo we received news from a trustworthy source that <i>Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion</i> is finally licensed for the UK.

I hope it's a Beez release... hopefully, we will hear more about it at the industry panel's tomorrow at London Expo.

This has been known for all eternity. I'm sure there was an unofficial confirmation ages ago, and even if there wasn't it was obvious Beez were going to release an expensive Code Geass box set or two at some point.

Not that I give a **** at this point - I already own the series in full thanks to Bandai's double disc sets.

It must be Beez, unless Bandai have managed to really drop the ball. Has a Bandai show ever gone to anyone else (except back when Manga seemingly got first dibs on everything)?

Well, the individual blu-rays are all out in Japan. Simultaneous worldwide blu-ray series box release plz.

720P Code Geass isn't very different from SD DVD quality. I've seen the series in HD on my PC and looked at my R1 DVDs, and they're basically the same.

Code Geass has bright, vivid colours, rather than the more dark colours seen in the likes of Death Note. That means film grain isn't much of an issue. And, in terms of the transfer, the R1 transfer is of the highest quality.

Also, there's little chance of Beez releasing a 25 episode series on Blu-ray for £100.

I agree about Beez being expensive, but I still believe they have awesome products. There is a certain aura of awesomeness around Beez stuff, I've just got myself freedom, patlabor movies gunbuster / diebuster and gurren lagann special editions and they look soooo good, that you feel value for money in it.

As far as I know the JP Blu's are in 1080p. I couldn't even begin to speculate on price, but most UK buyers are never going to pay Japanese prices so it doesn't sound all that far fetched. Look at the Freedom and Gunbuster blu-ray sets. Half the price here than they were in Japan...

Aion, I have the series on Blu-ray and it *is* a step up - bright, bold swathes of color are some of the easiest things to upscale well, so in general anime benefits a lot from being in higher definition with the superior color reproduction when encoded properly for Blu-ray. I'd be a bit gutted if they announced a quick release of a Blu-ray set at Western prices, though. ^^;

Fair enough if there is a clear difference between the two - a difference that can't be covered by up simply upscaling the SD DVDs. All I can say is that, having just had another look at one of the DVDs, the transfer is flawless. There's hardly any visible grain (not even when plaayed on my 1440x900 monitor), no flickering lines, no shimmering and the colours are as lovely as they should be. I can't imagine the video quality going much higher.

D.Gray-man has Manga's name all over it. It's being released by Funimation in the US in multi disc sets - perfect for how Manga are releasing anime at the minute - and it's a standard issue shounen series. They'll get it at some point.

I wasn't too fond of the anime, iirc. I made it past the fight with the clown monster and then lost all interest. If you've seen some two of the holy shounen trinity already, there's not much point looking into another unless it's something a little special.

It's all official, Andrew of Beez gave me the news today at Expo.

You're right. I believe Andrew was itching to tell everyone about it, but it seemed that some details got lost in translation until he spoke at the anime industry panel.

When we spoke to him yesterday he never told us who licensed it. Even though it was obvious it was Beez.
