A Chinese MMO company called Aurora Technology, a subsidiary of MMO giant Shanda, is banning male gamers from using female avatars in game.
No explanation has been given but the Pacific Epoch site says it is to cut down transsexuals in games. It also says that a male playing as a girl can been seen as being a homosexual.
Male gamers of MMO King of the World will now have to provide proof of their gender via webcam.
So far the ruling only applies to male gamers playing with female avatars, so it seems that it is okay for female gamers to play with a male avatar.
