Much like anime and manga, when a game finally hits the UK or (US) some parts are edited and changed - sometimes for no reason. What is your opinion on this subject?
Here are some examples:
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) - One of the more recent editions to censorship. In Europe it was decided that decaptating your enemy was too brutal for our eyes to bear and thus it was taken out. I'm sure that with a game rated 16+, most of the people playing it have seen far worse on the teevee!
I hear it's back in Ninja Gaiden Black though due to the BBFC rating it.
Streets of Rage 3 (Megadrive) - In the UK version (in comparison to Bare Knuckle 3) not only was the story changed from a nuclear
holocaust to mere bombings around a city, but also a boss enemy named Ash was completely removed. The reason? Well he looked like as if he was in the Village People and pranced about the screen - implying he was a stereotyped gay person.
Enemy names was changed from such obvious names like Vice to something more thuggish like Garcia. Colour palletes was swapped, Blaze loses her famous red ala tart outfit and gets replaced with a dire grey one. Bare legs are not allowed and was coloured in. Save our children!
I don't agree with anything being taken out or changed (unless it was a translation thing) as I feel it's going to be toned down from the original meaning.
Is there any examples that made you enraged/happier on how the companies changed a potential gaming experience?
