Buying anime related stuff and money

Ok we all here buy anime stuff DVDs, models, games, books, anything that were in to.

I was having a chat with my dad today and he knows I love anime and my hobby of collecting anime DVDs but he said I shouldnt spend so much money on DVDs, he said I should spend a lil and put away a lil I know his concerned about me spending my money on what I like, I think I might have a problem with spending too much on my DVDs. But you know when you see something you just got to have it, like it was the only one left or it was a LE or it was part of a series you have and need it to complete the series ect.

I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.

It's like me, I have to buy a new tv and ps3 and buy the rest of inuyasha or buy a few ecchi series or buy a need series that seems good or buy the new collection for my one piece series ect but I spend so much money on trying to get these, I know it's up to me on what I want but what my dad sakes true I should save a lil but it's so hard to since there's so many series I want to get you know what I mean.

I do feel this sometimes. My parents told me to put money into my building society account and save this money up for certain things - most of which has just gone on a new laptop. Luckily I've just earned some cash and so I was able to put some of that aside too.

Most of the money I've been saving is going to be used when I go to anime conventions. The next one I'm going to (not counting the Middlesbrough Nemacon PreCon because I work for it) is Sunnycon, later this month.

I don't really have anything to save for, other than my future...

To me, anime is a fun hobby. If there's something good coming out in the UK or region AB in the US, then I'll probably buy it. But I don't feel a need to buy limited edition stuff just to say I have it. If my PC blew up or my phone died, I'd rather have the money to repair or replace it than say "Oh yeah look, here's my Madoka poster, isn't it pretty!".

That's what I'm doing with my new tv I'm gettin tomorrow and new ps3 I'm getting in a few weeks. But it can be a bit of a fustration when you want to buy the stuff you want but cant since your buying something else instead but if you have to buy a new mobile or tv or what ever then there's no choice right

I just buy want i really like.
I dont buy when it comes out, i wait for a price drop.
I dont buy special editions unless i see its worth it but still i wait for a price drop.

That's the way i save in anime. I dont buy that many stuff nowadays because the good stuff (for me) was released between 2006 and 2009 and most of them are already oop so i didnt get the chance to get them.

Well, for those of us who live away from our parents (or those of us who no longer have parents at all) we have to prioritise food/rent/bills etc in order to survive. Even more so if we have other people to take care of in our lives. Sometimes, prioritising the boring stuff can have a long term boost on how much money we have available for fun things, so it's worth doing.

I still spend far too much on my hobbies though, as I'm greedy!

Mmm, I don't usually have much trouble with angonising over not being able to buy stuff, I used to think I was pretty "SPENDSPENDSPEND" but with my birthday money I had the opportunity to wipe my amazon wishlist clean, but I didn't and saved half of it and spent the other half as thriftily as possible. I always search for the best deals before committing to something and I rarely buy games new unless I really want to support the developer/ it's a title I've been waiting on for years (like Arkham City).

Plus if you spread out purchases they feel like a bit more of a treat =3

Lady's and gentleman the guru of sensibility and greediness lol is rui

Well, the sooner I pay off this mortgage the sooner I can afford to buy more merchandise each month, so it's good motivation! Having to miss out on a trip to Japan last year sucked, but I'll just enjoy this next one twice as much...

I'm always living with the paranoia that for some reason I'm going to need my money for something important or something that has gone wrong. I still have most of my money saved from summer job back in 2010. I can easily afford the money to buy a nice gaming rig, but my conscience keeps telling me to be sensible and save the money for a rainy day. It's weird being a "rich" student but can't actually spend the money because of my own personality. Also, basic necessities should be free!

Must be nice not having responsibilities.

Responsibilitys are for responsible people

Kudos to those whos aid they manage to prioritise rent and such, sometimes I get in a pickle over that stuff. I'm fairly sure there have been at least 4 months in the last few years where I've got to the stage of borrowing food due to prioritising all wrong.

Luckily this year I'm finally on a decent wage, but where I should really be saving up to buy a place (London deposits are HOW MUCH?!?!?) I'm p***ing it all away on anime and games and books and whatnot. Though that said I barely ever drink and always shop for the best deals in everything so don't spend much more than an average person in the end.

I do seem to find that however much my income goes up, it doesn't seem to mean I have any more money left at the end of a month. Soemhow I always manage to live almost exactly to my means.

Anyway, animefreak17, you should practice self restraint or in 10 years you'll end up like me shut up in a crazily cluttered flat by yourself somewhere!

Haha, sure we can be buds.

I'm not really a shut in though. In fact the most tragic thing is I'm never home and therefore never get to use/read/watch/play/look at all the crap I buy.

Being a shut in sort of falls apart when your parents cease supporting you, unless you are from a wealthy family or can live with hand outs. If I came into a huge amount of money I'd certainly be up for that, but until then juggling my mortgage with my desire for doujinshi is a way of life.

I think Maxon wins the award for sounding the most sensible so far, nothing wrong with being a careful student (so long as you don't get too hooked on the lifestyle and end up living in poverty on instant noodles and baked beans even when you're earning six figures later in life, like someone I know...).

6 figures? poverty?

I feel bad enough buying Tesco basics and I'm not evenhalf way to 6 figures :(

Imagien all the anime I could get with 6 figures.... even that shiny Fate Zero box...

What a point buy to dvd or game for over £25-50 because you can wait to months until price is drop. It is a lot of save money. Example last year skyrim is release and their price is £35-£40 on online but i am wait their price is drop. I bought skyrim for 22.50 from gamestation online. I am understand why parent tell us must save money on bank because future, i maybe move at flat or go to holiday or whatever. That is helpful from what i doing save money.
