A video for the upcoming TV anime Blood Blockade Battlefront was uploaded onto the internet today ahead of its April premiere.
Synopsis
When a breach between Earth and the netherworlds opens up over the city of New York, residents of the city find themselves trapped with creatures from other dimensions in an impenetrable bubble. For years they have lived together in a world of crazy crime sci-fi sensibilities but now someone is threatening to sever the bubble, and a group of stylish superhumans is working to keep it from happening.
The anime is directed by Rie Matsumoto who made her name with the sci-fi action show Kyousogiga in 2013. Kazunao Furuya, writer on live-action shows like Galileo and Liar Game, is scripting and the animation is coming to the screen courtesy of the studio BONES. Other interesting names in the staff list include Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop, Golden Boy) as character designer, Koji Sugiura (Gunsmith Cats) as creature designer, and Shinji Kimura (Project A-Ko Tekkonkinkreet) as the art director.
The anime comes from the mind of Yasuhiro Nightow, creator of Trigun and Gungrave. Indeed, it was created after he finished Trigun Maximum, in 2007, a one-shot manga that appeared in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in 2008 before he expanded it into a series in the years following. Dark Horse publish the manga in the US.
