Best place to import PMMM Rebellion?

IncendiaryLemon

Captain Karen
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone here knew the best place to import Madoka Magica Rebellion. The only UK place I can find that stocks it is United Publications but they are charging £40. I know it's a new release and it's an import, so I'm not expecting it to be cheap, but I'm not sure I can justify paying £40 for a single movie. Are there any other places stocking it for around the £25-£30 mark?

Cheers.

Unfortunately not (in terms of whether there would be one available for £20-30 price range).

Although Rightstuf is slightly cheaper, the customs and postage will make the overall cost higher. In addition there's the rather annoying sign up requirements.

United Publications is the best place for US anime imports since there's no need to pay UK customs and while the prices aren't the best for certain sets the delivery and handling is very well done.

Otaku UK is another alternative since they act very similar to United Publication though at this moment they don't have the standard edition of the Blu-ray (they have the Blu-ray LE for £58.99).

Aniplex won't decrease the price's SRP either and will stay that way for a very long time.

UPDATE: Speaking of United Publication, the US version of the website is selling the standard edition for about £34.84 ($51.98). The US and UK websites are pretty much exactly the same; same company, same location. The difference is that you pay in US currency.

The only other thing is to hold out hope that now it's come out in Australia, a UK license will follow quickly - but considering the state Manga is currently in (as they released the TV series) who knows...

If I order from the US site, won't it dispatch from the US, incurring higher shipping charges, negating the £5 saving? The US site makes it out to be shipping from the US, not the UK.

@Lutga: I was considering doing that too. I just really want to see this movie, and I have no idea how long it will be before Manga will announce they're distributing it, never mind when it actually comes out.

Short answer is no. I'm not sure how they work it, but orders from the US site never show any signs of going through customs.

Weird, I'll definitely consider that then.

No, although it says USA in the title they still ship from the UK. The only thing different is that you pay in US dollars instead of pounds.

All stock comes from their 'UK Warehouse'

My assumption is that selling it in dollars is somehow more beneficial than selling it in £, possibly due to exchange rate and the fact the US site has it's HQ in the US (different tax rules maybe?)

I've ordered a bunch of stuff through United Publications now and it's all turned up ok, so another recommendation for them here.

As other people have said, their US store is really just a UK store in which you pay in dollars. I've emailed them about this to make sure; everything gets despatched from their UK warehouse, so delivery is quick and no customs charges.

Just an update on this, I've decided not to import it from the US. The film is getting an Australian release in June and I can get it for about £23 shipped from the Madman website, so I'll just wait until then seeing as it's way cheaper.

I think the issue of Rebellion came up before and was shot down because it was 'sold' as a package deal along with the recap movies which Manga had no interest in. With good reason, of course. PMMM isn't exactly a money spinner, releasing two movies when sales of the TV series are middling at best, is rather short sighted.

I would have though it sold well, it seems to be a popular show. Shame that it didn't.

I think the issue was more that it was a slow burner - it didn't bust out of the gate with AoT like numbers. It's sold ok-ish by this point, in fact, in terms of other series released in 2012, Black Butler, Full Metal Alchemist and Dragonball are the only Manga series to have outsold it.

It could have been an Aniplex restriction that prevented an earlier release of the movies - eg. like what happened with SAO, and Manga were unwilling to charge the price required?

Nice to know it sold decently over time. I'm still disappointed they didn't really try to promote it.
