Because not all anime fans are couch potatoes...

Kaede

Adventurer
...I am away this weekend running my first marathon in Amsterdam. And while I have put in slightly more effort into the training than Jade Goody, in case I don't make it.....it was nice knowing you all. :)

I'm already looking forward to a nice refreshing pint of Dutch lager at the finish line, providing I get round in the sub four hours I've aimed for.

Any other AUK'ers embarked on similarly foolish quests? :?

Regards
K

Used to be a keen runner myself.
Ran track for the school many a time.

So hats off to you mate, marathons are no easy feat, i hope to run the london marathon either next time or the time after that, depending on how i feel nearer the time.

(Apart from that i marathon drink lol)

Hey Kaede, good luck. A full marathon in under 4 hours? That's pretty impressive.

I try to exercise at least 3 times a week, but I still have to push myself really hard to get o the 10k mark, don't even know what would be like to do the whole 40k...

Cheers guys, AUKer's are clearly the fittest/most sporty otaku going... 8)

Heh, well I still have to do it, but that's what I'm aiming for. I'd be ecstatic if I came in at 3h 59m 59s. At least Amsterdam is nice and flat!

Hey Tachi, have you sent in an entry for the London Marathon or would you run via a charity? I've tried three times to get in the London Marathon and failed which is kinda why I'm heading abroad.

I'm a couch potato mostly :( but not wasting all my time. I'm normally working on a personal project on my pc. Normally programming related but right now its an amv.

Need to start hiking, kayaking and karate again - all things I used to do.

i was good at hurdles, it was funny watching the fat kids knock all of them over

i used to be able to do the 1500 in about 7-8 mins, but i feel i can't do that for snizzle no more

Good luck Kaede!

I need to get more active again. I can't understand how I've gotten less healthy since I started walking a good couple of miles most days of the week (uphill one way as well). But it's probably because I eat quick junk food now I've got less time on my hands. Preparation of food is a massive waste of time given the time it actually takes to eat. That's time I could be spending watching anime.

I'll probably contact a local charity abit closer the time and see if they need a sponcer.

Wonder if you get a medal and extra money for coming first *sits pondering*

Either way, used to be the 18th fastest of around 2,500 last time i had a proper race. It's been a few years since i've trained my legs but theeir still rock hard ^_^

How long and what've you been doing regarding training?

Cool, Tachi. Sounds like you need to get back into it! 8)

I've been training with the marathon in mind for 5 months. But I have been running for the last 4 to 5 years. I'm quite fortunate that although I'm in London, I live near a canal and I can easily follow it out into the countryside for my training runs, meaning I get away from the traffic and polution of city life.

I've built myself up gradually culminating in 5 20 mile runs over the last 7 weeks. These last two weeks I've not done any major training, just a couple of little runs to keep my legs ticking over. Will probably go out for a 3 or 4 mile run tonight which will be my last one before the big day.

I take my laptop to the kitchen, whistl preparing food / cooking.
But usually re-watching something, as attention cannot be dedicated fully to it .

Lol! You need one of those kitchens with a built-in TV chaos... I could, if I wanted, watch my TV from the kitchen because it's in the same room. Guess I have no excuse not to cook now. :p

Like you, I have limited time for cooking, so I like to cook recipes that take under 20 minutes to prepare.

The thing I eat the most must probably be grilled chicken or fish with salad. Healhty and pretty easy to prepare.

I love making italian as well, so lasagne, polenta adn risotto are things I'm constantly cooking.

Other good thing about cooking is that it helps me avoid those unhealthy snacks. Althought I'm still not snack free. A man needs his chips every once in a while! (with salt and vinergar preferably)

I try to avoid running on account of my asthma which I have had since I was very young.

To make up for it I do plenty of walking - usually at a brisk pace. It takes me around 25 minutes to get to work - thats around 50 minutes per day Monday - Friday.

If I need to get to the bank it's around 40 minutes each way.

As for the cinema it takes around 40 minutes each way to get to the cinema in the quad or the Cinema du Lux (Showcase). For the regular Showcase or Odeon cinemas it takes around 60 minutes each way.

Mangaman, I used to have asthma also. but the only way your going to get rid of it is by exercising your socks off. and making sure you have a clean room/house every few days a dity up and vaccume the house top to bottom.

Anyway, lastnight was the first night at the gym. 20mins on a level 8 stairmaster. 15mins on a bike also level 8. did 20reps with dumbells (10Kg) and then 20mins on the rowing machine at level 9. walked out of the gym red and abit sweaty......my mate sam on the other hand walked out of there drenched lol
Buying a adapter for the car today so we can listen to music en route. rather than singing to 80's music :p
