Bayonetta

Just played the demo & I must say....

IT IS AWESOME.

Better than Devil May Cry so far. The action is very fast flowing & it is easy to pick up, but you will need to learn to play well, as button mashing only really works on the easy enemies.

Controls....

X - Jump
Square - Shoot with guns
Triangle - Close combat attack combo with personal or aquired enemy weapon/pick up dropped enemy weapon
O - Kick combo

L1 - ?
L2 - Switch weapon
R1 - Lock-on to enemy
R2 - Evasion/witchtime

L3 - ?
R3 - ?

Left Analog Stick - Move Bayonetta
Right Analog Stick - Move Camera

You begin with two weapons which you will always have; a pair of handguns & heelguns, & a katana-like sword, & can switch between the two with L2, though Square will still fire guns when you have the sword selected. Each provides different moves, & the key difference is that certain special moves differ according to which you have, with the guns giving you longer range & the sword giving you shorter range but more power I think. I think your attacks when using the sword are more agile as well, but I'll have to play more to compare.

The camera is good & easy to control, although the default settings make it move slowly when you try to move it, so I'll be changing that.

Bayonetta also has another thing in common with Sonic besides their common parent; she collects rings too. XD Different to the Sonic rings, but that ARE rings. :D

Now lets chat about the cool game with the chick that gets more naked the harder she kills.

Indeed the demo is awesome, I just wish certain people would stop whinging about the PS3 version being an awful port.

You also seemed to have forgotten to mention the shotguns (on her legs) you get access to with the katana.

And for the few buttons that you've not quite got what they do properly,

L1 - taunt

Square - the "action" button, as well as shooting guns it also picks up enemy weapons etc.

L3 - Drop held enemy weapon
R3 - Centre camera

Also, I think the rings are supposed to be halos, after all you are killing angels.

If you want to play the 360 version of the demo, browse through this thread on the article on Kotaku.

There's instructions on how to get it there.

In regards to the PS3 port issue, I don't think its bad at all, the gameplay seems to be running perfectly. However there are lots of complaints elsewhere of frame rate issues, screen tearing and also washed out colours.

Just watched a comparison, & the difference is nothing a quick tweat of the contrast settings on your TV couldn't fix to make them look alike. The only difference I see in these comparisons is like the PS3 version had the contract reduced by 10-20%.

Got both consoles, but I'll still be buying the PS3 version, since the PS3 is the better, more powerful (though irrelevant in this instance) & more reliable console.

The wait was worth it, honestly, this game is like... "What if Devil May Cry was actually GOOD?"

I played normal first time, I'm experienced enough to know how things play out in big action games. This game utterly crushes the competition, I find most action games to be rather slow and not as fast paced as you see in cut scenes. But this game delivers, like honestly, I was flying EVERYWHERE, fully in control too. The Clock Tower section caught me off guard a little, it was kind of hard using some attacks, camera angle was a little iffy, the next section though was where all the magic happened. The music is pretty tight as well, Angel Attack is a different kind of battle theme, no generic rock music thrown in to sound edgy. Definitely buying this upon release. Can't say it's worth the perfect score yet, but from the demo it comes pretty damn close.

Not quite, the detail just isnt there. The issue has been that it was ported by a company other than Platinum Games.

I played it at the MCM Expo and very much enjoyed it, and have enjoyed the demo today. Unlike DMC I can actually play this game. lol.

just played the demo now myself on normal and **** this game is gonna be hard to top. It's like the game youve been wanting developers to make for years but it's just never happened until now. I was a bit skeptical on first level of the demo due to a lot going on on the screen, but the next level just blew me away. The combat in this game is ******* amazing thats all i can say, the music also suited the atmosphere perfectly and got me pumped up.

I fear ninja gaiden has just been solo'd, i honestly can't wait for this game.

I received that email too. Another game to add to the 'to play' pile.

I am just relieved I held off on the HMV offer (they sent me an email this morning offering their limited edition of Bayonetta for £27.99 - you get the game & a dvd with a couple of episodes of anime and trailers).
