Seriously looking forward to seeing this though, Batman is the only superhero I can stand (he's just a man, after all - and a somewhat disturbed one as well) I loved BTAS as a young 'un in the early 90's, and bought all the series from the US as I never thought they'd come out here - another premature import on my part.

I think Batman, more than any other superhero, is different things to different people because of the many incarnations over the years. I much prefer him at his more serious as in the latest films and Frank Miller comics.

Is Year One by Miller? and if so worth purchasing? I've been eying it for a while and always been tempted.

Sorry for the late reply, I totally missed this. Yes, Year One is by Miller and is well worth purchasing. Parts of it (though not the whole story)were adapted for Batman Begins. Also by Miller are The Dark Knight Returns (brilliant) and The Dark Knight Strikes Again (kinda weird).
 
This is why i loved Adam West as Batman:

Not to turn this into a Camp Batman vs. Dark Batman thread, but this is why I love BTAS:

It's like Film Noir (which I also love). I have the "Batman Animated" book, which has a page full of hilarious but also infuriating censor notes, the best of which being "Censor objects to Batman's line "Then I'll see you in HELL!" It had some seriously dark moments for a kids show.
 
The animated series was great because it was more Batman of the 80's and 90's. Whereas the TV series was more Batman of the 60's. They both have their merits.
 
Warner/DC also have this way of creating "chiselled" heroes when it comes to animation, something I always found a plus over the marvel animations.

*Chiselled - prominent chins, upright stature, look at Superman and Batman for starters!!

Batman Gotham Knight is pretty slick, I'm about half way through it now. I'd like to see an anime adaptation fothe creation of the Joker, I think the Japanese animators could give it a real nice dark overtone.

Those who say that Gotham Knight doesn't really bridge the gap between the two films are wrong... Gotham Knight is all about the Mythos of The Batman, his rise from amateur to super crime fighter, how public folklore adds to the whole mystique... There are so many layers to this it's unreal.

Animatrix wasn't a direct link between the two matrix films either, but it still worked...
