I still disagree that some things are flat out funny ;p and there are dozens of female comedy writers for shows; you probably just watch more male-orientated things. Whether they're any good compared to the males would require me to watch far more episodic comedy to form a balanced evaluation than I'd care to do at the moment I'm afraid!
I don't really get the stand up artists who have been mentioned so far as good examples of talent. I'm sure they are very good to a comedy fan but it doesn't click with me. My partner's a huge Connolly fan so I get exposed to his stuff fairly regularly but it doesn't really do any more for me than watching the weather forecast (sorry).
I do like Monty Python though. Possibly the fault of childhood brainwashing. On the other hand the manga High School Girls cracks me up and that's extremely feminine in tone.
It's likely that some things are funnier to guys and some to girls as someone said earlier and the different styles attract different followings. I'm pretty butch so not particularly liking any famous female comedy stars doesn't break any of my personal trends.
Female stars do seem rarer but possibly it's because females are just poorly represented in that kind of role in most fields (aside from dancer/actress/singer, but most of those are playing a part rather than baring your sense of humour). It takes a lot of traditionally masculine qualities that are only now barely being shared out more evenly in stereotypes - I can think of female comics but very few traditionally feminine comics. Maybe audiences feel less at ease subconsciously about women in that role too so they have a harder time getting famous.
