Are there many Japanese people in the UK?

I have to say i have never met a Japanese person native to the UK, i'm sure there are Japanese communities in London, Manchester, Bristol etc. can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

I can't say I know any in Glasgow, but in London I found a row of Japanese shops, such as a sweet shop and a book shop (which sold Japanese manga!) So I'd assume there are a fair few there.

Somerset.....lawlz

Seriously though there are quite a few - especially in the private schools but since i neither went to one nor live remotely near them it doesnt really matter.

Yeah there are communities of Japanese people living in the UK. Mainly in London. If you go to the Japan centre in London you'll see there a loads of Japanese people in London at least. *Weather they were born here or moved here from Japan I have no idea.*

Well I did see an aisan guy walk past me with a Laughing Man T-shirt (From Ghost In The Shell). He could be Chinese or something else but I've yet to see a Chinese anime fan.

Heard some Japanese speaking in Manchester, but it's definitly a rare event that you bump into someone Japanese/know someone who actually lives here.

i think there is a japanese society in the edinburgh uni, though whether its for people wanting to learn the language or for japanese people themselves i couldn't say. I've not seem any here really, or at least noticed any speaking japanese, the majority on this campus have been chinese.

Every time I go into town I cant go five minutes withoutseeing someone japanese or generally asian.(not that Im complaining).
Seems Dublin quite the popular destinatioin.

There's usually large numbers of Eastern groups that walk around Preston. I see them often at lunch or after Uni, but I don't know if they're national or foriegn.

where i live there are loads. espically in the tottenham court road area, i cant go 5 secs without bumping into them when i am out shopping for my anime! not that i am complaing!

Well it is quite interesting to know, but it kind of makes you wonder why they would stay in the UK at all.
It's not like thay have any pol.itical instabilty, and thay must earn more then use, since they cost more(or so i've herd)

Anyhow response to the topic,
specficaly I live in Guildford and the person I'd heard form lives in Woking.

my reasons to belive he's Japanese, well first of all I bought a Visual novel form him, To Heart & 2, to be exact, and..well this was a NTSC/J game, so the only he could understand it was that he had to be japanese.
That and his paypal account name looked quite Japanese.

Anyhow he was quite suprised that we lived quite local, and invited me to some of those visual-kei gigs, with proper j-rock bands.
So *insert Fonzo catchphrase* I befriended a Japan Man :))

Which is so hard you know, hard anough trying to find friends in the same thing your interested in, then trying to find it in foriegn people.
