Nearly all anime have a tie-in manga (unless they were based on one), it's one of the more profitable bits of the industry (unlike DVD/BD sales).

Anime is better cases:
PaniPoni Dash
Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase
Kanon(2005)
Clannad (TV)
Air (TV)
Oreimo
Strawberry Panic
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Koihime Musou
GitS
Magical Girl lyrical Nanoha

Equal?
My-HiME
Hidamari Sketch
Kare Kano
Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations
Negima!: Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba
Negima!: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai
Negima?! (manga is Negima Neo, not Negima!)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Ghibli films that weren't a manga first (i.e. Nausicaa)

The only title that springs to mind is The Legend of the Misused Homophone. Unfortunately, an influx of newer fans has caused its popularity to wane.

In most cases, i find that if the series starts off as a manga, then gets an anime adaptation, 75% of the time, the manga is better. There are some cases however, where the anime does come out on top, like with Ghost in the Shell, primarily because the manga is very hard going to read, everything being thrown at you left, right and centre. It's still good, but it takes a couple of reads to really enjoy it as it should be.

Equal cases though? One pieces' anime adaptation is pretty damned good and lives up to the manga a lot. Sure it has filler, but it's nowhere near as abysmal as the likes of, say, Bleach filler. Genshiken is another, at least for season 1 and the OVAs, it more or less follows the manga well, but season 2 kinda goes it's own way and doesn't really work out as well.

I could add more, but as said, most of the time i find the manga is usually far better if the series starts off as a manga.

I cant really say in general, since Ive only read the first volume, but I would say that toradoras anime is better then the manga.

It might be one of those cases where it depends which version you see first, but I much preferred the Black Lagoon anime to the manga. Coming from the anime, the manga just felt cramped to me - there seemed to be so much emphasis on the character art that I couldn't get a sense of the space in which things were happening.

I'm tempted to say Kaiji as well, but I haven't actually read the manga - I just think the art looks a lot better in the anime version...

i totally agree and sometimes the ending of a adaptation anime can be good too

Many would disagree with this, but I would say Trigun the anime is hands down better than the manga(which became Trigun Maximum). Its just on the whole a tighter story in my opinion. As the manga went on I felt it allowed itself to become too convoluted and too focused on the violent action sequences, I also preferred the ending of the anime. I did still enjoy and finished the manga but I much, much prefer the anime.

Wooooooah, that number is way too low. Top of my head random guess would be at least 90%.

That low...

It's more the case that it was anime, game or novel first and the tie-in manga is awful.
Then there's the anime basicaly ignores the source material and goes in another direction option.

Haruhi for another example.

The Urusei Yatsura anime is better than the source manga. Mamoru Oshii and Kazunori Ito took a good, tightly-paced romantic comedy and fashioned it into something much weirder, looser, and more ambitious - a process that culminated in Beautiful Dreamer and Oshii being given the old heave-ho.

I prefer the Welcome to the NHK anime over the manga (both are based the novel). It's warmer, more positive, and not as mean spirited, and Misaki's less of a schizophrenic bitch.
