AnimeCentral; a new anime TV channel coming to the UK?

I have been enlightened. That really is pretty interesting actually, I've heard of Navarre in passing in news and such.. in the stock exchange, never made the assumption that they're Funimation's parent company though, although it seems pretty obvious : o. I didn't know Revelation distributed all of Navarre's titles, I don't know why they just didn't start out distributing for Navarre.. would have saved a lot of bother with swapping to it from MVM.
Navarre took over FUNimation last year (or late the year before), which is the point at which MVM's distribution for FUNimation began to come to an end, presumably when the contract between FUNimation and MVM had run out or an amicable deal had been struck. Before that FUNimation were an independant licensor, much in the same way as ADV were before they were bought out by Sojitz.

Ah I see. It seems when a company gets taken over, it grows, of course that's obvious with the money being pumped into it.
Geneon are owned by a Japanese company I think. I know they also distribute in Japan to some extent, Dentsu and Mitubishi it seems are Geneon's parent companies.

By any chance do you know what's happening with Geneon's Anime Music sub company? I've been looking everywhere for some information of why they suddenly stopped everything in January of this year.

Geneon are indeed owned by Dentsu in Japan, which is the largest corporation in Japan as I am aware. There are actually two Geneon companies, one for Japanese anime distribution and one for the US, both of which are owned by Dentsu but are otherwise seperate companies, much like Bandai Entertainment (US), Bandai Visual (Japan) and BEEZ (Europe) all being owned by Namco Bandai Holdings but each a completely seperate arm and individual company.

As far as Geneon Anime Music goes I have no idea; I never paid that much attention to it in the first instance so haven't really noticed much myself.

Minor point, but Sojitz own brought half of half of ADV, John Ledford still owns the rest. I believe Mitsubishi and/or their d-rights subsidiary own a stake in Geneon USA as part of deal between Dentsu and Mitsubishi last year. Incidentally, Mitsubishi are the largest corporation in Japan, not Dentsu, although Dentsu aren't that far behind.

But. . .The downside being. Its not full freeview, its SKY's interpretation of freeview. It doesn't include quite a lot of freeview channels that should be there. It doesn't even have E4.
My Sky EPG has E4 and E4+1, name me the others allegedly not included on the Sky box then? Like any other hobby, anime and manga has to be invested in with money. If one says one "can't afford it", one just has to work harder to change that.

I believe it's channel number has been allocated (well according to this guy on digitalspy).

"Looks pretty certain that ones coming. Interesting that they're going for an adult audience with it (EPG 201). The last channel to try that (CNX) didn't fair too well."

2-0-1

Hmm

Simple to remember, but it requires moving hand from central all of 2 inches to the 0 then all the way up to 1.
Is it really worth all the hassle?

COURAGE does not think about the idea of inches! It thinks in the ideals of ENTERATINMENT!

Besides, same, if not more, work to type in 10X for the Main Six.

And 201's a fairly good, rememberable number.

Still it could have been worse. A really high number away from the kids stuff might cause prolems as well. Rapture's number was with the porn channels (the name didn't itself any favours in that department either). I think they had a low number of viewers because of that.

Going back a few pages to talk on dubs and subs being shown, why not show the dubs from 9pm to 1am and then repeat the shows with during the night, that way those of us who'd rather watch subs can record on our sky plus boxes.

Simple innit.
There are plans to do something like that already but at the outset it will be dubs only, partially due to not having subtitled versions available for all of the anime they will be showing.

they might as well do the sub versions, i mean their planning to show them at night so it would be a good idea.
They are aiming for the widest market possible and even in anime fan terms that mostly consists of those that prefer dubs to subs. Those who support subtitles over dubs are a (highly) vocal minority. Besides that showing titles with subtitles potentially alienates the real goldmine audience for such a channel, namely those with little-to-no knowledge of the medium or those with a passing interest. I wouldn't go so far as to say that such an audience is a must for the channel to be a success but considering the relatively small proportion of anime fans in the UK (and that is including those who may be unable to get Sky for one reason or another, be they students or kids at home) it would go a long way to proving its viability. The fact that it is on late at night proves useful for the kind of content they will be able to show as close to its uncut form as possible (this is not to say they may be forced to cut or edit some content but the liklihood of that is greatly reduced). Much earlier and they would run a greater risk of having to change their content or edit what they show. People have to accept that anime on TV may not be aimed directly at the dyed-in-the-wool anime fan but rather a broader base into which said anime fan could fit.

Agreed, though the timeings are a bit off imho, but I suppose that's more to do with thier material they have on hand.

However, geting some shonen jump stuff; Little bit a bleach, a bit of Toonami level Naruto, One Piece (though Turner would rather just screw everyone over) and such should rectify that problem rather nicely.

Hey, maybe they got the rights to PKMN DP and that's why CN Too hasn't aired that.
I dunno, conspericy courner 101.

I hope not. The Pokemon company fired most of the 4Kids VAs, and got people in who really suck.
