Anime Limited's Q2 2015 Slate Revealed!

I always go for Limited editions but I may have to skip these releases all together going forward as they so far haven't felt special or had any material (physical or otherwise) that justify the price. I don't care for art books. Getting the Gurren Movies was the only extra that made that set worth more than the normal set but even then that's pushing it. Hurts me to say it, but that’s how I feel. The sets above don't come with anything much other than the show itself really, but they look so amazing presentation wise that I feel that I have to buy them and own them. That's the reason I actually bought the Rahxephon and Lain sets for example. The box just looked so awesome. For me, the presentation is just as important. Maybe that's just me.

It's kind of a Catch-22 really. Whatever our focus is we'll not be the right edition for everyone 100% and our focus is very often on the book frontier. It shouldn't hurt to say if elements don't appeal and I agree - presentation is very appealing too all in all which is why for even non Ultimate Editions we put a tonne of effort in to them :).

We'll definitely keep it in mind at least on regular editions but where we are trying to offer more as a USP like an Ultimate Edition, size often has to be considered if we do want to include a book or other presentation points. Definitely do want to experiment with other ways to define an Ultimate but it really ranges from project-to-project.

No point making an oversized box just because we can but conversely don't want to avoid it if there's a solid idea behind it :).

Hope that makes sense >_<!

For what it's worth, I think your books have been by far the best thing about your ultimate editions. I still value on disc extras like commentaries and documentaries the most, but the books have been incredible, especially with Patema and Giovanni. The behind the scenes/making of stuff has been top-notch.

I'd definitely say the books are the main reason I've been deciding to get the UEs/CEs that I've been getting when I'd normally just go for the standard editions. So here's one customer who is fine with you focusing on the books.

While I agree with Ath for the most part, I was pretty disappointed by the GL artbook, especially when compared to the Patema and Giovanni, the contents weren't particularly interesting barr a few pages at the back imo. I understand you can only work with what you are given, but I would certainly forgo something like that for nicer packaging closer to those posted above. Can't please everyone though, and other people seem to love art books (well, so do I but only if the contents are interesting).

To be fair - we had a lot more restrictions for GL and we've learned a whole bunch from the experience there so I'd say going forwards we'll forge ahead with the knowledge both Patema and Giovanni's books really worked well for those interested in books :).

Personally I love the style of Gurren Lagann in a sense - the artbook is great and feels quality, same with Patema even though it's not hardback. The size of the books is good. I kind of like the big boxes too, but frankly the thing that really puts me off is the large digipaks.

To me they are just garbage and feel completely cheap. If the UEs going forward included regular keepcases, or even smaller digipaks like KlK to hold the disks maybe in some thinner slipcover inside the big box, that would be good for me. But if it's going to be the same style as GL or PI, with the giant digipak, I would seriously rethink whether I would buy them. I like to store the shows on my shelf together and I simply can't with those. It's weird and kind of makes me torn, because I like that they feel special in their big boxes, but just hate I can't store the shows themselves properly on my shelf with other stuff so it's easy to access and watch.

For me that's what I love about KlK, it's kind of the perfect style box for me and I feel like I'm getting a quality product. Same with Space Dandy (although I'm not a fan of the top-loading box, I can deal with it lol).
