I'm Bill Gilly, and I'm excited to be part of this amazing anime community. I've been an anime fan for years and love everything from classic series to the latest seasonal hits.

Looking forward to joining discussions, geeking out over our favorite characters, and learning from fellow fans. Feel free to say hi — I’d love to connect with you all!

Greetings Bill! What are some of your favourite anime series and movies? Do you have any other animated things you like or other fandoms you are part of? :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, RadFemHedonist! Some of my all-time favorite anime series include Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop. I'm also a huge fan of Studio Ghibli films, especially Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

Recently, I've been enjoying some of the newer seasonal hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. As for other fandoms, I'm also into gaming (particularly JRPGs) and manga collecting.

I used to be pretty strict about subs only too, but I've come to appreciate some really well-done dubs over the years.

What are some of your favorites?

I love so many anime, so it's hard to pick, but atm I am rewatching Princess Tutu and loving it, a beautiful, profound story about stories where the characters choose to defy fate, refusing to do as the storyteller wishes. I am also watching the last 60 or so episodes of the 2011 Hunter X Hunter anime and am thoroughly engrossed! I love Cowboy Bebop and both Fullmetal Alchemist anime as well, and I'm big into shoujo and josei - I love Fruits Basket, My Love Story, Nana, Marmalade Boy, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and many others, as for more recent things I loved the first season of Ranking of Kings very much and I've also ended up incidentally enjoying quite a few of the Spy/Assassin/Mafia family shows that have been coming out recently - Hinamatsuri, Buddy Daddies, Spy X Family and Sakamoto Days (though I'm still working my way through that last one and have only seen the first season of SXF). I love manga too - rn I am reading Daytime Shooting Star and Neighbourhood Story, and can't wait to get my hands on the second Pet Shop of Horrors Collector's Edition release when it comes out in early May! As for other things I like, I love illustrated hardback books and have a beautiful collection of them, and I'm generally obsessed with animation (currently making plans to rewatch all of Adventure Time), I love some other graphic novel series such as Heartstopper, Lore Olympus and Adam Warren's Empowered, and I'm a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and to a lesser but still considerable extent the Angel spinoff series. I love Ghibli movies too, they were very much my gateway drug for getting into anime more generally, I still remember how much Spirited Away wowed me when I first saw it in the cinema and Princess Mononoke is amazing too! :)

What are some of your favourite manga? :)

Wow, RadFem! We have so many overlapping interests! That's an impressive list of anime you're watching. Princess Tutu is such an underrated gem - I love how it deconstructs fairy tale tropes while still remaining heartfelt.

Hunter x Hunter is absolutely worth finishing - the Chimera Ant arc gets so deep and philosophical while maintaining amazing action. And I see we're both Cowboy Bebop and Ghibli fans.

As for my favorite manga, I'm currently collecting Chainsaw Man and Spy x Family. Some all-time favorites include Berserk, Vagabond, and Goodnight Punpun for more serious reads. For lighter stuff, I enjoy Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Yotsuba&. I'm also excited for that Pet Shop of Horrors Collector's Edition.

Are you planning to pick up any other collector's editions coming out this year?

Yes, absolutely - that's what I love about it too :)

I will share more thoughts on Hunter X Hunter when I've finished it in the Your Anime Viewing Journal thread, I keep meaning to rewatch Cowboy Bebop again as well! :)

Yotsuba&! is so cute! I am more getting Pet Shop of Horrors cuz it's the edition that's in print, than for the CE tag per se, but I do think the first volume of it was nicely presented, just wish it was in hardback! I am planning to start collecting Mushishi in the new hardback editions they have planned, and might also finally buy Dragon Half and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou though I'm not a big fan of full on omnibus volumes in paperback as the spines get messed up too easily IMO. I'm also quite tempted by the deluxe hardback editions of Akira, Battle Angel Alita, Cardcaptor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth :)

How about you? What other upcoming releases are you looking forward to? :)

Hi Billgilly! Welcome to the forum^^. What games are you playing right now? Fun to already see you both hype about the awesome world of anime and manga:)
