ADV films license Clannad

It's good news nonetheless.
Now let's hope they're able to release the series in its entirety this time, I'm still waiting for the R2 Kanon and NHK.

Glad to see ADV doing something, I'd all but left them for dead. Shame it's Clannad though which I will never watch and therefore can't give them a penny :(

I feel bad about ADV but I already have everything they've ever put out I'm ever going to buy. Get licensing more shows!

And by that, we meen more GOOD shows. No Xenosaga nonsence, none of this Key Anime panderization. We want the TOP TIER nonsence.

It could be a while... You might as well import NHK now that FUNi have taken over it's liscense. They're going to be releasing them in a couple of sets, which is good if you have't collected the singles. They're also releasing #6 of Kanon (good if you have 1-5), but I don't think there's been any news on future sets for the series.

And Clannad is awesome news. It's easily the best of the Key Kyo/Ani productions. Let's just hope they manage to release it all.

No, the fact that they are cockblocking more FMP, Haruhi and even orgional projects that might never be makes them awful.
The presentation of anyone lacking a y chromosone as a retard in all Key shows is just bonus crap to the cesspit.

Ignoring the predictably idiotic tirades from conan-san (seriously dude, do you have nothing better to do with your time?) this is actually very good news, if all goes to plan. ADV's problems are well-documented - too much so I suspect, which might be making their recovery much harder - so this is a huge boost to their image. Basically, this show is popular with fans and is as close to a sure-fire hit, that promises a healthy return, as they are likely to find.

As for my views on the show itself...I actually quite enjoyed it. Mindful of what it is - a commercialised and lucrative adaptation of a commercialised and lucrative dating sim - Clannad is an entertaining high school romance series. The art/animation is solid, the music's decent and the storyline makes inventive and effective use of the quirks and limitations of the game's narrative (oooh, look at me being *intellectual* about a dating sim! :p ). The pacing was a bit patchy on occasion and of course the saucer-eyed bishoujo aesthetic isn't everyone's bag, but given that I'm not normally interested in the genre at all I was pleasantly surprised with it.

All we have to do now is wait and see if ADV survive long enough to get the DVDs on the shelves...

I seriously don't see his show doing much in the way of good, it's got the same problem Azumanga had; ADV will dub it, it will get realesed, people will go "Oh, Ayu (or whoever the hell) doen't have x accent, they totaly messed up her adorable (or, in real person, blasting anoying) little catchphrase thingy" and then procede to keep thier fansubs.

Then it will be ADV who are the ones saying Uguu.

Clannad was okay, but it's not the sort of thing I'd fork out for. As everyone says though, it may help ADV's situation. I'm holding out hope they'll get back on track with Welcome to the NHK or even Pumpkin Scissors (I must be the only one who likes that show) but it seems unlikely.

Hopefully this will be a ray of light for ADV and not the final nail in the coffin.

They have lost the licence to both of those, which were transferred over to FUNimation earlier in the year.

Oh right. Guess it's up to them then.

This. Seriously, though. KyoAni bring out one anime per season, and what was the Summer one? Oh no, not Haruhi II, not Full Metal Panic, but a bloody Clannaids OVA. Such rage. And then there's a Lucky Star OVA. C'mon, guys. Urgh, and now they're airing the second season of Clannaids, putting Haruhi on hold until, at least April.

Another series? That'll be another years wait before the next FMP then :( I don't mind Clannad, but I can't understand for the life of me how it warrants a second series. Aren't KyoAni bored of moe yet?

Kyoto Animation are producing this next year as well. It hasn't pleased the FMP and Haruhi fans but, unlike the relentless torrent of Key stuff, it actually sounds like something I might enjoy.

Word was that it got canned on the writing board.

But if it's back on, good good.
