Addicted to My Anime List

Since my mind is unable to comprehend social networking sites (well, you can add friends/comment on each others profiles!), could someone explain to me how random add people think? I fail to see the point of adding someone you've never spoken to or never plan to speak to. Perhaps I need to put a warning in bold, red lettering on my profile?

An example of this outrageous behaviour is a MAL user called RetroRainbow. This awful person added me, didn't message me, ignored my message to her and has offended me with the girly/pink style of her profile.

Well, if it's anything like facebook, it's all about numbers. People try to randomly add you, not because they want to actually communicate or be friends with you, but just because they want to have, like, 500 "friends" and appear to be incredibly popular.

well, I finally managed to get my account sorted there. added anyone who posted ids here and I also managed to update it with almost all my animes I've seen. I'm sure there are a couple I'm forgetting about (wait, just remembered about one more)...

I'll add manga sometime later this week.
