A Forum Game section...

I reckon if we put the games in a section that doesn't add to the post count it'll go back to normal, the posts are insane cause everyone is posting in the 'rumours' 'wearing' 'banning' and 'what you doing' threads

I don't much care about the "forum games"; they are what they are and I don't read them. You expect those threads to be filled with nonsense.

What's frustrating me is how certain people are taking it upon themselves to post in every forum (sometimes in months old threads) to add nothing but essentially "I agree", "yes" or "no", or to just derail the discussion with off topic nonsense. I hate seeing interesting new threads ruined by spam - it makes this community look bad.

Ultimately post boosting has no place on these forums. I can turn a blind eye to it in the "forum game" threads but anywhere else and I'm going to start coming down hard. Eventually you will have to don the embarrassing user rank of "WARNING: SPAMMER" and be stuck with a negative post count!

I don't mean to sound too harsh with all this, I know we're all just anime fans, it's just the way I do things. I'd sacrifice 100 one liner posts for a decent couple of paragraphs.

That sounds like a decent idea to me..

Quite a lot of people are posting in basically every topic to say basically nothing to do with it. ( no names mentioned.. )

where as there are people who are sad like me who seem to have a high post count without entering these games or even spamming........ i need to get a life :(

Sorry everyone My post count kind of got out of hand this week its just that Im stuck in college all day do nothing sorry again :(

I think it would be good Idea to get rid of the post counts I dont realy see a reason in having them

Actually I didn't realise it was that bad..... sorry if have been flooding the boards, have been working a lot recently (usually only do 7 days and 7 nights), loads of overtimes has been available, and I tend to live on here when I am at work as I love chatting to people and discussing anime, its been building up inside me for years and now I have an outlet.

I will calm down now and avoid the pointless posts, Pauls warning definately made me realise how much i have posted this week alone (usually I post this much in a month not a week).

But on the plus side as of friday I am off for a few weeks so I will fade away for a while and won't be able to get on here s much, mainly cause FFXII will be taking up all my time, oh and car shopping for my misses

It's not that I want anyone to stop posting, just post in the right places and try not to fly off topic within an interesting thread :)

may be a good time to hire a few more mods aswell, not that chris and michelle aren't doing a good job, but 1000 memebers is alot to look after (though saying that not seen them about too oftern either)

Chris is in a different time zone and Michelle is all growed up. I was thinking about new moderators, but every time I appoint one they either disappear or freak out :)

Provided my warnings have been heeded, I don't think we need anymore supervision just yet! (My full time job involves web development, so I'm checking this place every hour or so anyway).

Just out of curiosity what is happening with these forums anyway. I'm talking about 'Anime UK News' Character Battle 2005' and 'Jim Tzu's Forum Manga Shorts'. The battle forum seems long dead and i'll be honest in saying i'm not really sure what the other one is.

I don't think we really need a new mod either. Things run smoothly here with little moderation as it is and that's down to the maturity of the posters on here. Sure topics derail now and again but that's bound to happen from time to time and can easily be sorted out and smacked back onto the original subject matter. Looking at other forums it's surprising the number of topics where actual discussions can carry on here rather than instantly turning into a 'well I don't care, your opinion sux!' 'hey naw man yours sucks' and so on. When I want to watch idiots do nothing but bash each other i'll read the comments over at blabbermouth.net. I've not been a member of many forums but this one is probably the best. What it lacks in activity it makes up for in quality.

Quick, someone wave a flag behind me while I stand all thoughtful!

Go for it, it was really fun last time. I can help out with setting up the forum, organization etc - just fire me an e-mail!

I've left the old Character Battle forum at the bottom since it's a testament to the tight knit "first generation" community we got going here. Sometimes it's just nice looking back at the old posts, remembering old users and the debates we got going (I particularly remember the big fuss over Evangelion and RahXephon).

My general philosophy when it comes to forums is to place a lot of the responsibility on the user. Anyone can break the rules if they want, but what's the point? If the user wants our respect, it's down to them to earn it. Most people seem to respond to that and it fosters a relaxed and intelligent community. The only major problem with this is fighting to keep threads on-topic rather than just an "old pals" conversation.

Have to say i'm impressed with this policy, and now i think about it, it's probually one of the major reasons i (and i'm sure others) choose this forum over the many other UK anime forums.

As for the off topic problem, i for one have to admit i have contributed to it slightly myself, but have recently changed my approach so that if i do go off topic it's at the end of a post relitive to the original topic.

Usually i would suggest setting up a small chat room for us to chat to eachother on without interupting the forums, but as i've seen on many forums (and we even tried here with the irc channel) it's very rare if it works.

As it stands though i personally feel the forums are going along nicely at the moment, with 1 or 2 posts that just need a little nudging to remind people to keep it cool and on topic. But the end result is still the same, however your doing it paul, behind the scenes or just watching it grow, i've a feeling the site will continue to grow and grow in popularity.

[/end possibly the biggest post you'll ever see from me]

I know all about running large forums and the users on mine are the exact same as those here, albeit on a different topic. The main reason i would say we dont need moderation is because we all like and care about this place, anyone who throws a spanner in the works gets a swift kick up the backside.

This is our forum and it could be very crap or a great tight knit community, The forum itself is a bunch of code. But its what we, the users, put into this forum that makes it what it is.

I would love to see AUKN grow into a massive hub for all anime users but only we can do that by being friendly, having good content and keeping the crap where it belings.

*are we done yet *

i for one would love to see the character battle back, it was good fun last time so i'm all for another. I would like to help out on it but i dunno where to start with it heh :?

I prefer to earn my respect, it means that i can show that i am someone who will post on topic and be as friendly as i can.

What was the character battle I joined after it was all over?

It first started when I joined, IIRC, it was quite good, though I didn't make it for all of it. I'd like to see different characters this time around, instead of the usual Spike Spiegal, Shinji Ikari and Ichigo Kurosaki.
