I really enjoyed Expelled From Paradise - mainly just because despite the CG visuals, everything in it, from the hard sci-fi tone to Angela as a character seemed like such a retro throwback to the 'golden days' of anime sci-fi (the 80s - early 90s) that so many fans lament there isn't enough of...
It kind of sucks that you need to reach a certain amount though - it's not like a Nectar or Boots card when you can just use any amount at any time.
For example - I just checked and I have like 26,000 points - so unless I spend more to reach 30,000 - I'm kinda stuck.
It's funny really, with the original GITS dub, for the most part I love it, and it has so many classic lines - but the one bit I always take issue with is the famous scene of the Major and Batou on the boat, where she starts quoting from the Bible - and it sounds really stilted. I'm not sure if...
I'm tempted to get back into Skyrim - but I poured so many hours into the PS3 version I'm not sure I could justifying doing it over again.
I remember the bugs issue for me wasn't even glitches in the game per se - it was just that crazy issue with the increasing save file size and in general...
Yup - the subtitles on the GITS steelbook are some of the worst I've ever seen. Even worse, they actually used this set of subs when they played the film at the BFI Anime weekend earlier this year.
That said, if you don't mind watching the English dub (which for all its rustiness in places, is...
In that instance I think the thing I'd take issue with more is 'Major' becoming like a name - ie. 'I'm playing Major' - just sounds so wrong on a grammatical level.
Major is her title - so say in the show if Batou says 'Hey Major' - that's fine, because it's like saying 'Hey boss'
But yeah...
While I think the Starz situation was far from ideal, I think there were at least a couple of positives they brought: ie. more financial clout, and a better spread of coverage on VOD services (something I believe Manga are now looking to rectify again after most of their titles lapsed off these...
I dunno, correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I can remember she *is* pretty much always referred to as the Major in the franchise, at least by her work colleagues? So much so that they specifically have a whole episode in SAC that laughs at the fact Batou calls her 'Motoko' when she gets shot at.
Yeah - I mean, the conclusion I came to anyway was that it was just too expensive / risky a prospect for Manga. Both the initial costs of acquiring the license, and getting hundreds of episodes through BBFC.
Given Sailor Moon was never as big here as it was in America anyway, I don't think it...
I get the feeling we'll be waiting quite a while for the other two DRRR sets anyway - ie. Summer 2017 at the earliest for the next one, given how much else Anime Ltd have on their plate to release at this point.
Just a general assumption that if anyone got Sailor Moon, it'd be Manga UK. After all, they've released other Toei shows in the same wheelhouse - DBZ, One Piece, Digimon. Given how much they're pushing the longrunning kids' nostalgia show vein at the moment (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon movies), Sailor...
Going from the trailer too, it looks like the film is going to be an interesting blend of elements from both the 1995 movie and GITS SAC - which is funny considering that's basically exactly what the original manga was.
Yeah, if anything, I'd say the work MVM has been doing recently with both Blu-Ray re-releases / DVD rescues of stuff like Haibane Renmei has won them back a lot of favour in my eyes.
I kind of feel MVM had reached a point where so much of what they released was sub-B tier / C-tier shows...
Probably one of the reasons why the 2nd hand manga market here is so poor - people hold on to their stuff!
Think the only manga I ever see going cheaply second hand is old volumes of Naruto / Yu-Gi-Oh which probably sold thousands of copies.
It's kind of ironic really, when you see the pricing structure in Japan. Anime is sold at insane prices (and I'm not even just talking about the £40 - £60 individual volumes that have 4 eps on them - let's not forget the £300 / £400 complete box sets) because it's a collectors market and the...
Interesting that they've basically confirmed in that trailer they'll be dealing with the Major's sexual relationship with women too - imagine that'll be the point that picks up the most discussion over the next few days.
I had slight hopes for Sailor Moon coming out over here when Madman announced their sets - but I've pretty much given up hope at this point. Either Toei are blocking it, or Manga have looked at it and figured it just wouldn't sell well enough (in my eyes, an outdated view, the MVM release came...
