Songs you like and dislike at this moment in time.

Rather Liking: Couple of things to recently enter my musical radar if anyone's heard of them - Field Music - In context - newish band to add to the current clutch coming out of the North East Koop - Koop Island Blues - difficult to pigeon hole - jazzy-electronica-hiphop? Heard both on...

    The 'bounce'

Is the term ‘fanservice’ acknowledged as covering both sides of the male/female equation? I think the term 'exploitation' is a little ambigious in this context, especially as we are taking about 2D images rather than real people, so it's not obvious who is exploiting who - the anime...

    ~The avatar thread~

Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket if you needed telling. Reminds me a bit of myself - hair and eye colour if nothing else - just wish I still had quite the same quantity of hair

    Manga...Value for Money?

I’m not sure I can agree that 1 volume of manga can say quite as much as a novel, maybe one of the more detailed mangas (GITS?) comes close to a shorter/thinner novel, but £6-7 can get you 300-400 pages. I have an extreme example on my shelf – Stephen king’s The Stand ‘Uncut’, £8.99...

    Manga...Value for Money?

I was meaning to put a post on this earlier - the post from a fellow manga-newbie harkins’s reminded me. I bought my first manga the other week (2 volumes X/1999 and STONe vol.1 for £15 @ FP), and its apparent pretty quickly, even at a discount rate, how much entertainment that money...

Paprika premieres in November at Leeds Int. Film Festival

Not sure if it warrants a separate posting, but if you follow the link to LIFF website you’ll find that they are also showing all <b>13 episodes</b> of <b>Paranoia Agent</b>, split over 4/5th November. There is a whole bunch of Japanese live action films in the list as part of the Festival...

Songs you like and dislike at this moment in time.

It's an odd thing, but i find exactly the same myself. Ever heard or listened to any Tindersticks?, particularily their II album - I've found them strangely cathartic when I've been down in a hole - can't go anywhere near it at any other time - it's just too damn depressing! Hope you're...

    Books / Literature

Ahh...thanks for that Arbalest - I have much to learn! Still battling with my way from 1868 Japan onwards - begining to think its not the best written book - thick and lumpy - doesn't make for a flowing read.

Sounds like a slightly random choice of historical time frame - were there significant developments in that period?

Anime and asian movies on UK TV this week

Well it's not anime, or Japanese, but <b>Film4</b> have a <b>Korean 'Season'</b> coming up kicking off on this thursday night (5 Oct.) Looks like they are showing one each night at around 11pm-ish, give or take, starting with <b>Lady Vengeance</b> Thursday at 10:50pm followed in order each...

    Books / Literature

In line with my recently developed fascination with all things Japanese I dug out a couple of books from my local library: <b>The Japanese - Strange but not Strangers - Joe Joseph</b> Enjoyable read giving a nice snap shot of Japanese society and culture from the view point of a westerner...

    Favourite anime quote?

Haven't watched that much anime yet by most peoples standards, but here's a few that have made me chuckle so far: <b>FMP? Fumoffu</b> Kaname: I'm Kaname. Kaname Chidori. Masatami: Miss Kaname. Oh, what a beautiful, elegant name! Like a quiet, unassuming slug, the sound of your name crawls...

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Not today, but yesterday bought <b>Cromartie High School vol.1</b> Wanted to save reading it for later but couldn't resist sampling a little: Got as far as the incident of applying adhesive to the 37,042nd domino - anyone familiar with CHS are possibly chuckling to themselves at the...

What you guys doing right now.

Insight into the life of a struggling currency trader... Work starts here; start of a new 24/5 week, currency markets open (10pm gmt) after weekend close, Australia/Japan awake by now. To be honest, nothing much happens generally till Europe wakes up tomorrow morning, so just a case of...

Why is there no wrestling topics on this forum???

Oh my...storm in a tea cup anybody? Seems pretty simple to me - rather ask the question 'why no wrestling?', just post a topic with something interesting to say about it and wait for some replies. The question seems to propose there some sort of wrestling censorship going on. Is there??

Am I not a bit old for this sort of thing...?

Thx for all your welcome-s I managed to find the "how old are you all?" thread - so now i know roughly where i stand now! Nice to know there at least a few of us at these lofty levels of 'maturity' - and one or two above  Found a nice quote from an 'older' anime fan in the ANN...

Anime and asian movies on UK TV this week

I was perhaps lucky to see 2046 before In the Mood a few years ago and was really impressed with the whole visual style of the film, although i have to admit i left the cinema not entirely certain of how it all fitted together. Managed to watch In the Mood for the first time the other week...

Am I not a bit old for this sort of thing...?

Perhaps not, the jury is still out...in any case, as I'm fast discovering, I’m sure I don’t need to convince any of you that anime has a lot more to offer than mere 'kids cartoons' Anyway, a welcome hello to anyone listening, I'm Jim - 32, hoping to share some views/opinions/thoughts/joy...
