UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I'll definitely get Thousand Year Blood War, the animation on that should pop nicely on blu-ray, but I assume the original series is just an upscale so not 100% sure I'll double dip, especially as @HWR just said there is always the worry they'll get two or three sets in then stop...

Final Fantasy VII: Remake - Traces of Two Pasts Review

I imagine at the very least Rebirth's depiction of the Nibelheim incident will feature characters / moments mentioned in the novel, if only through items and off-hand remarks, same goes with flashbacks to Tifa and Cloud as kids, as you said. Plus some of the framing devices actually take place...

Final Fantasy VII: Remake - Traces of Two Pasts Review

Traces of Two Pasts does exactly what it says on the tin (or book cover I guess) and gives us a look into the backstory of Tifa and Aerith, plus a bonus story at the end, all written by FFVII scenario writer himself (amongst so many other things!) Kazushige Nojima. Is it really juicy information...

UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

Yeah if I hadn't caught up when it was "only" 400 or so episodes I wouldn't bother trying the show now...

Leiji Matsumoto is definitely one of those "his influence in the industry cannot be overstated" kind of people. Absolute legend.

Samurai 7 - Complete Series Review

Samurai 7 retells the extremely influential Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai but changes the setting from Japan’s past to a weird mix of science fiction, steampunk and Japanese culture to create something entirely different - well, apart from the 'small village hiring seven samurai to protect...

Vinland Saga - Collector's Edition Review

Yeah, that's the thing you'd have to have everyone speaking languages other than English with subtitles underneath, which for an English dub wouldn't be a great selling point! That's why I said I appreciated the effort but it would've made more sense for the actual anime team not to go for the...

Vinland Saga - Collector's Edition Review

Vinland Saga blends historical drama with bloody action and some shonen tropes to form a very satisfying whole, so it’s great to see the anime adaptation finally make it to physical media here in the UK in the form of this collector;s edition. Let’s take a deeper look into MVM’s latest release…...

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Review

Dragon Ball’s latest cinematic outing is somewhat divisive due to its use of CG animation (and it’s use of the word “Super” twice in a row in its title… just me?) though what has at least got people to stand up and take notice in a positive way is an almost complete lack of Goku and Vegeta...

UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

Weird to see Dragon Ball on the BBC iPlayer! Also weird to think of Super being people's first introduction to the series, but then looking at the overall Dragon Ball story it was weird for Z to be most people's introduction and that worked out well...

UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Nice to see SEED Destiny, there was always a thought in the back of my head that if the worst should happen the AL lose the Gundam license it would be really annoying to have only half of SEED on my shelf, despite not really liking Destiny I'm happily going to drop £120 on it at the end of the...

The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

This is a surprise, given FUNimation brought Crunchyroll I assumed Crunchy would fold into FUNimation, not the other way around. I can only assume that CR has the bigger established subscriber base so it's an easier job? Either way if it works out then less money coming out monthly sounds good...

The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Oh there's no doubt it was pre-animated, some of the footage is from towards the end of the arc and there's no way they've got anywhere near that. Doesn't change the fact that it's not CG animation ala the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero though!

I thought Bleach looked (computer assisted) 2D? Certainly not a CG animation like, sadly, DBS Super Hero.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Episodes 1 - 12 Review

The adaptations of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure have returned to our screen via a Netflix 12-episode drop. Beginning the anime version of Part 6: Stone Ocean, these episodes feature a female lead character and female-heavy cast along with a prison setting, so do these departures work in the...

Wow, that's a fact I never knew about. I remember Tracey Island builds on Blue Peter more than the re-runs of the show I saw growing up in the late 80s/90s.

Robotech - Part 1: The Macross Saga Review

I'm all for natural, subtle film grain, that's why this seemed so excessive as soon as I put the first disc in the menu played footage in the background. The blacks are nearly greys because of the amount of noise in them. Overall it didn't hurt my watch of the series much, but it was...

Robotech - Part 1: The Macross Saga Review

Robotech means a lot to American fans of a certain age, while Macross means a lot to Japanese fans of many ages. Here in the UK, however, neither hold massive sway, least of all Robotech, which was barely featured on TV here. So how does a Blu-ray release containing just the original 80s dubbed...
